Any newbies on OKcupid?

Veterans, any advice for a new guy on OKcupid?

Also, I relaunched my couch surfing profile to try and get some opportunities to travel next year.

Well, I'm still new to it. Only been on there about 3 weeks.

It can be a bit of a time drain in that you must message huge numbers of girls to get one or two replies.

Then you get a reply, and the girl just wants to be a pen pal. She doesn't come out and say this of course, but I get the sense many girls are on there solely for validation pings and have no intention of meeting you in the real world. You'll trade a couple messages, propose meeting for a cup of coffee, and never hear back.

I've messaged approximately 90 girls (a fairly accurate estimate) and gotten maybe 8 replies. Of those 8, I would only say I have one "live one." We messaged back and forth for about a week. Then on Monday I messaged her and said we ought to meet for a drink this week. She said "Sure, later in the week is better."

I messaged her back and proposed Thursday. No reply until last night when she said "On second thought, Thursday is bad because my family is visiting town for Christmas and things are getting hectic..."

I'd say even odds I ever see this girl in the real world. And she's no a 6 by the looks of her photos. I messaged her because judging by her profile she is down to bang.

Makes me wonder. I mean, I'm competent enough to go to a club and get numbers from 7s and solid 8s. Girls I can evaluate in front of me, with mine own eyes. Not to the point where I can get same night lays. Hence I signed up with OKCupid to "diversify" my approach.

Oh, and another thing. You cannot search by body type (slim, athletic, "curvy," etc.) unless you PAY something like $10-15 per month.

This is a problem as there are huge numbers of fat chicks on there. HUGE numbers.

Even if you are a tall muscular white guy, it's not that much better.

I have been on Okcupid and pof for over a month now and despite having a decent ~30% response rate, I have only gotten a handful of numbers and nothing else to show for it (looking through this forum, I realize I did make some rookie mistakes).

Those girls you see in the online girl hamster thread are more the rule and not the exception. Don't invest heavily in it. Realize that you can and probably do get better in real life. Message the girls when they are new to the site. You can search this on okc by "join date".

If a year goes by and I still have nothing to show for it, I will probably delete my profiles. I'm still holding out that I can close on a few this year once I get them on a date.

Captain Ahab - You're in Tampa right? One of my best friends lives there. He is getting laid consistently off of POF. He says OKC kind of sucks there. Who cares but - he is not white.

My point is - you should do BOTH OKC and POF. You do NOT need to be tall white and muscular to get poosy from the internet.

Well, I'm 5'10, 182lbs, "muscular" in the sense of Bruce Lee, and I'm black (well, paper bag brown but whatever).

Yeah, I can imagine day game is 80% my bread and butter (which includes networking with co-workers, dates, etc), 16% Night game (shooting for SNL), and 4% online.

I kinda think online is the icing on the cake rather than the cake.

Glad to see there is some ray of light somewhere. It is good to know some guys are having success in Tampa Bay in the online market. I have been here since June.

I plan on getting some good photos done for my profile. I could get my photos done at a professional place, or I'll just buy a camera and take some shots. I think with a decent pic, some witty replies to my profile questionnaire, and some hustle I can net a few dates a month.

That said, we all know day game/night game is where the real supply is so I plan on having that take most of my game time during the week.

Read through the huge OKCupid thread. It's long, but most of the gold is in the first 30 pages or so. Some of my condensed advice after about a year or so on and off OKC:

- There's a steep curve favoring guys who look good "on paper." i.e., tall, handsome white guys who make money and have the perfect level of friendly/cocky profile. Those are the breaks, so play up your strengths.

- With that in mind, do everything in your power to have good photos. I've had girls tell me a few times in person that they really didn't read my profile, just checked out my photos and decided to respond. Use the my best face feature to see which of your pictures are the best.

- For me, I use a one-line cold read and copy-paste it as my opening message every time. I get a 33% response rate or so. It has to come off as not too invested, but able to tell what her interests are. Choose something as broad as possible. PM me if you want more details.

- Always message girls who are online now. They're more likely to respond in real time than if she logs in to see you are 1 out of 10 messages waiting. In the search, I filter for girls who have been online in the last week (aka active users), check out their profile, and if I like what I see, I will "favorite" them. (note: they are not alerted when they have been favorited) On the left hand side, I can see which of my favorites are online. If they're online, I hit them with a message and within 10-15 minutes, I'll know if she's interested or not.

- Use the distance hack in the okcupid url. This is sooo useful. When you make a search in okcupid, look at the url. It'll be really long with a lot of "filter=" and random numbers. Look for "&filter3=3,25". Filter 3 is the location filter, and 25 is the 25 mile minimum radius. Change the 25 to whatever you like (I keep it to 5 miles or so to find out who is actually close, so it would look like "&filter3=3,5"), and hit enter. HACKED!

Minority guys should get off Internet dating sites. They're bad for everyone but particularly bad for us (unless it's a niche site that caters for minority guys - they exist). If you're gaming white girls, they get very picky with photos online and even if you're good looking, they'll get all those stereotypes they know about your race going through their heads. Whereas if you meet in person, the way you walk, talk, act etc. immediately smash those stereotypes and there's not much of a barrier to overcome race-wise.

I did a controlled experiment where I used the EXACT same profile, but used the pic of a tall handsome white guy. Then I created another identucal profile but with the pic of a handsome non-white guy.

I ran the "Meet Me" function and set up a macro click it 10,000x.

Result?

The handsome white guy had 100+ girls wanting to meet him as well as several dozen messages.

The handsome non-white guy had 3 Meet Me and 3 messages - all whales.

Tighten up your message game and these numbers will improve. Take a look at this initial message Roissy popularized:

Don't take this verbatim--1000 dudes have already done that--but use it as a template for making a message that really works. A couple reasons this is good:

1. Unusual. An OkCupid girl has already been negged or interrogated about every single item in her profile. She's never gotten a message like this.

2. Kinda cool? The guy's at work, betting on whether OkCupid girls are real or not. Clearly has more going on than just playing xbox all day (as per the girl's expectations of OkCupid guys).

3. Asks a question. Don't make the girl think of a witty response. With this message, it's obvious what she's supposed to respond to.

Take that message up there, twist it around, c&p to every chick within a 25 mile radius, and watch your leads multiply.

For sure. Like you probably are, I'm just trying to add a few dates here and there, and I also search for foreign girls, but I don't let it take up too much of my time.

I made the mistake when I signed up of thinking I would have immediate success but I know I've even seen some of the guys on here who have success with it say not to expect that right away.

Create an entirely separate profile, completely different from yours. Use some other guys picture. Chat the girl up using this alternative profile first, to get a "feel" for what kind of game you're gonna use on her.

Then hit her up with your real account.

I tried the online thing for about 6 months last year and had nothing to show for it, so I deleted my profile and haven't looked back. Tons of fake profiles and delusional obese single mothers.

1. It is actually MORE time consuming that in person gaming of girls, believe it or not.
2. Seeing all their bullshit about how no guy is good enough for them up front in their profile instead of just going for the bang and bouncing gets fucking depressing fast. In real life meetings you usually don't have to get all that right away.

***First off to El Mechanico. Thank you for sharing this manuever. Now here's what Im going to do using this tactic. Im going to create a profile in the next few days and use IRT's picture in order to get a feel of just how well he could actually do with women if he wasnt crazy. To El Mechanico, MSW, & other Ok Cupid RVF veterans- any and all of your input would be greatly appreciated. I'll report shortly in the future regarding this matter.
