I remember one video circulating a few years ago purporting to show Chechen fighters beheading a Russian soldier. The soldier was puking as his head was being cut off. Probably the most disturbing video I'll ever see in my life. I try to mostly steer clear of gore these days...

Sucks to be that guy, but it also sucks to be on the business end of a cruise missile. If he really was working for the United States, he took a risk and knew what might happen.

These guys fight with what they have: small arms, bombs, terror. I don't know that controlling drones that kill from up in the air is any more human. In Pakistan, the U.S. kills an enemy and then sends drones to his funeral to kill anyone there under the theory that they must be enemies as well.

This is what war is.

Why the fuck haven't we just flattened these places? Not "oh let's bring them democracy", but "let's kill every fucking thing there." Ban CNN, ban FOX, ban Al-Jazeera and BBC, no more whining on the late night news or wikileaks, then just do the dirty work.

Look at Somalia, forty fucking years of on and off civil war, no contribution to the rest of the world, does nothing but raid our ships, take our charity, kill our troops, and train our enemies. Just flatten the entire country from the air, pave it over, nothing of value lost.

Putting aside the issue of killing lots and lots of civilians, do you know what that sort of campaign would do to the men who served in it? It doesn't matter how many bombs and cruise missiles that you pour onto a place, sooner or later you've got to put troops on the ground.

Do you want to be one of those troops, whose mission is to go into a place and just kill everyone there? Interesting fact: in the beginning, the Nazis tried just shooting everyone they wanted to kill. They rounded people up, marched them out of town, had them dig a big pit and then started executed them. One of the reasons they moved to the concentration camp method is because of all the mental breakdowns of the German soldiers who took part in those executions.

You can institutionalize the sort of brutality it takes to do these things; that's what the Japanese did during WW2 (look up the Rape of Nanking). That changes a man as well and not for the best. Instead of trying to kill millions of people, maybe we'd be better off treating terrorism as mainly a criminal justice and special ops issue and start winding this whole silly War on Terror.

I never knew that about the concentration camps. I remember reading about how, even in war, men struggle immensely to actually kill another human being.

This is primarily the fault of the American government, frankly what the U.S does is far worse then anything shown in this video. This has nothing to do with the American people because they are not the government, however these same people being murdered here and are the same ones that shoots and destroys schools with children on a regular basis intentionally using drone strikes and never issues apologies or even bothers to look the deaths of the children up. Frankly I think the U.S government agents had it coming to be brutally murdered like that. I don't feel sorry for those guys at all, they are aligning themselves with an evil corporatist government completely not aligned with the majority of the U.S public and they are getting paybacks, why should anyone?

I've heard lots of stories about it, lots of hollywood crap. My father and grandfather had confirmed kills from Vietnam and WW2. My dad (who's a very morally-guided man) put it as "You aim, squeeze a trigger, your target comes apart if you don't fuck up." He had a number of close-range confirmed kills in vietnam. Very mechanical and emotionless affair.

I always thought the concentration camps were because they were easier to exploit captives as labor. What a sick chapter of human history.
