What's been up with you? I'm interested in hearing if you're still based in Australia or got out like you mentioned. If you're out, which country is the new home base?

Yeah I thought this was going a be a hate thread.

Nilla is this going to become your signature move?

Anyway that's not why I'm here. I came to tell ALI and the DR crew that Eristoff is sold here on the bottom shelf for like 10 bucks a gallon or some shit. I was surprised to see it next to the Skol and Popov....

And good luck to Harry and would love to hear what's up and for you to confirm that you are Greek.

RE: Hooligan Harry
El Mech I am indeed a Greek. Everyone wants to fuck me.

Quote:What's been up with you? I'm interested in hearing if you're still based in Australia or got out like you mentioned. If you're out, which country is the new home base?

I have business interests in Australia, which we are moving to Singapore as we speak. I want out, but so do both my partners so there is consensus there. One is considering Costa Rica, where his wife is from, the other will live in Singapore. So we are all gradually moving everything out. I gave myself 5 years to be gone completely and wont be returning for anything but business and family visits. Looks like Ill be out sooner than that though, things are happening quickly.

I love Australia, but this is not the country I grew up in any more. Its also headed down the same path as every other western country and I want no part of it. They can really stick this liberal, progressive shit up their ass. I was raised old school and I will stay old school.

Countries I am considering:

1) Bulgaria. Its close to Greece where I have family, but its also close to EE and Russia for me. It would be better for flights and travel time for me. Taxes are very low, the country is doing well now and I like the people. The issue is language here.

2) Spain. Its economy is in the crapper, but its one of my favorite places in Europe. Better flights for me to EE and Russia again, lots of those women go on holiday to Spain. I like the food, men can be men and thew weather is great. Im also close to the UK where I have a lot of friends. Nightlife is some of the best in the world too. I dont mind learning Spanish either, its one of the big 4. I am also looking to setup two of my cousins here, so I would want to be close to that for a little while and make sure they are doing what they should be doing. Spain is looking most likely for me at the moment.

3) Greece. I have family there it offers the same advantages that Bulgaria would, bar the women. The problem is obviously the economy, and the fact that mainland Greeks piss me off a lot. I think the exit from the EU will be a good thing. Taxes will be high though.

4) Thailand. Business is picking up for us in Asia now, but its close to Singapore which will be our head office. Its also the same time zones as Australia and closer flights for direct family. Property ownership here is a problem, the women for me are average. I love the weather, food and cost of living though. Also there are a lot of Russian women coming in on holidays now, which has given me an idea or two.

I think Bulgaria is your best option. Language barriers suck, but probably the most navigable. Hire a translator or wing it, either way you'll eventually absorb it. Plus, you can still travel to Spain/Greece and party your ass off.

I would put Spain as your second best choice, but the real problem is that you don't know if Taxes are gonna be raised through the roof there in the next 10 years as the country disintegrates, like Greece.

Spain and Greece are headed backwards and taxation is a major concern in the future. I also think there is a good chance we will see conflict in Greece, although the rural areas are a different story. Spain is very easy to wash money though, you just put it through cash business and clubs, hence my two younger cousins. Both places will be better off once they leave the EU and go through the initial shock.

In both cases, they are countries that dont tax foreign holdings either, which makes it possible to live there and pay tax only on the income you generate in the country. They try, but its not hardcore like it is in Australia or the US. I have no problem paying tax when its reasonable and its in the country I live in, Im just tired of being taken to the cleaners by the tax man. I pay enough.

Bulgaria makes the most sense to settle in for financial reasons, and its close to Greece. It's also growing and the women are not to bad either.

Greece makes the most sense to settle in because I have family and roots there, and even though its western its not the pit that Anglo countries are.

Spain makes the most sense lifestyle wise.

Im watching the situation closely so we will see over the next year or so. Priority at the moment is just getting everything the fuck out of Aus and hedging everything against the coming economic tsunami.

RE: Hooligan Harry
Best of luck Harry, you're doing exactly what I hope to do in the next 3-5 years.

One question, I know that you travel a lot and are often on-site or in the field. With this new business, will you still be travelling a lot for work or can you do your work from anywhere in the world and be location independent?

The reason I ask is because like you, my job requires me to be away from home for long periods of time and i wonder how that may influence which country you pick if you plan on shacking up with a local lady and maybe starting a family.

I may have to start a separate thread on this "which women are cool with their man being away", "which woman won't fuck the whole town while their man is away working".

I can answer these:

(12-15-2012 06:35 AM)scotian Wrote:  "which women are cool with their man being away",

All of them as long as you are sending money.

Quote:"which woman won't fuck the whole town while their man is away working".

None. Absence makes the heart grow yonder. Long periods of separation isn't good for any relationship, so expect your wife to stray while you're away.

My best advice is to stay single until you can make ends meet in the desired country, or at least only have to travel on very short trips. You'll thank me later.

Nah I have been doing my own thing for a long time now and we are well established. I still travel a lot, but lately have been spending more time in South East Asia, short trips under a week mostly. I prefer longer trips because I see more of the place, so this has been all work. Long term Ill be spending more time back in EE and Russia, along with the 'Stans unfortunately as thing settle down with us again.

Im a still a salesman. My partner who will be based in Singapore is kind of stuck there, but my other partner who is going to relocate either to CR or Panama is also a salesman. So we dont need to be in office as much. The nature of the job means travel, I just have support staff in some areas to help me out a bit.

I can pretty much go anywhere, as long as its Asia so I am close to the head office, or Europe/Russia so I am close to my most important patch.

I cant see the travel ever stopping, although it will slow down as I get closer to 50 I think. Eventually Ill probably just take her away with me on those shorter trips where its all work for me. The longer ones she can stay at home so I can get some strange. Her being faithful wont be based on my travel or not, they are either cheating whores or they are not IMO.

HH if you were to move to Greece where would you go? I'm coming to realize if I had to leave the states that's pretty much the only place I could go with my kid. I'm still up in the air on how bad things will get here but I know for a fact I can make a shitload of cash there regardless of the crisis.

How do they treat you there? I don't think they have hate for Aussie Greeks but I know they do for me. I enjoy fighting with them.

In regards to Bulgaria, the cost of living is so cheap there. You will probably live like a king, never been myself but know of people that bought cheap real estate there.

I have been a few times over the years and to be honest I have found the Greeks a very mixed bag. They piss me off no end at times, but at the same time I cant help but like them. The Greek community in Aus is huge though and many dont integrate because they never needed to.

I have family in Salamina, but also Thessaloniki which is where we are all originally. I would want to be within 50KM of Athens though.

Honestly, if you have money, Greece is not the worst place in the world. Great weather, great food, very chilled lifestyle, very community orientated. Its not the worst place to raise kids, and despite being considered a western nation the culture is so developed its not going to disappear anytime soon.

I would hold of a bit though. Im very concerned that we are going to see conflict coming, especially when they are either kicked out or they leave the EU.

Having spent a little time in Bulgaria and having friends who have as well you can live there pretty easily w/o speaking Bulgarian.

Considering Spain and Greece have become complete socialist clusterfucks and the cost of living in Bulgaria is really cheap I'd say thats your best option of the 3.

Bulgarian is related to Russian and they use the cyrillic alphabet. If you already speak Russian I bet you could learn Bulgarian in a year.

In addition corporate taxes are at something like 10 percent. nice!

You will be well poised to move into Greece when that baby implodes.

I think it's a damn good idea.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

Wow, I'm surprised you see them leaving as a foregone conclusion.
Some international observers think there's too much pride in the EU for it to dissolve easily. I myself don't know enough about it to guess.

Woud you hazard a time/risk estimate of when/how likely you think it is for Greece/Spain to be fully out of the EU. Like, "Within five years, 80% chance both Spain/Greece they will off the Euro currency."

100% chance of it, but timing is very difficult to predict. I reckon about 6-7 years, maybe less. Could be a few weeks to be honest, things are fucked.

Germany and France need Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy to remain in the EU. Losing them will give Germany and France a massive currency value boost that will decimate their exports. Not to mention that French and German banks are fucked because a lot of this sovereign debt is underwritten by their banks.

They are basically trying to delay and delay until such time as their banks could handle the shock of Spanish and Greek defaults, which are coming. This is why they are printing money and pumping it into their banks. They are trying to shore up liquidity so that they can ride out the storm, and then praying that Greece and co come right hopefully.

Its done and dusted though. They are all welfare whores now and the wealthy are not paying taxes anymore, they have fled. So the next step will be that eventually the bailouts will stop, Greece will default and they will go back to the drachma.

There is no pride in the EU. Its just progressive liberal horseshit driven by bankers. A lot of the people dont want it and it was always destined to fail. It was a bad idea from day 1

i second your sentiments. the original idea was that people from spain would move to germany and germanys would move to spain and it would be this grand multicultural accomplishment. the problem is alot of europeans have been living in the same towns or cities for generations and generations and its rare for them to move to other parts of their own country let alone another country. the cultural differences among europeans varies greatly within countries and its crazy to assume linking them together would not create problems.
