I figure this would be useful to those who run microniche sites.

Exactly, their cost are around $7 per domain, so they are willing to lose that $7 in the hope you blow money on overpriced hosting, domain privacy, email, etc..

Also once you have a domain you have to renew it each year, at $12 +
