People talk about how depressing politics is, but I don't think politics HAS to be shitty. The problem with it is that people make it into a team sport. When the objective is to score points, there's no concept of "I could take this corrupt perk but I won't because it's bad for all of us." If it makes the other side mad or humiliated, you go for it. That's what politics in the Western world has become.

Yep. It's a spectator sport. That's how you know politics are completely devoid of meaning.
