RE: First time traveling alone
I'm in Bangkok now, not sure how long I'm staying but I will definitely be here early January because I'm meeting up with a friend here and we're going down south. Let me know your plans and if I'm in BKK I'll try to meet up with you.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

BKK is simple. Catch a cab from the airport to Koh San Roh, check into a motel, hang out at one of the bars there and get a SNL your first night (hopefully a new euro flag).

KSR is the tourist hub for SE Asia, it's super easy to book flights/buses/whatever. Plus, there is a seemingly unlimited supply of easy backpacker lizards. I wouldn't count on banging thai girls, quality ones are hard to come by and if you do run into one she'll be used to the foreigner's motives and not put out easily.

RE: First time traveling alone
I am leaving on my solo trip tomorrow. Taiwan nov 27 to dec 3, Thailand dec 3-16.

I was fine until this morning, when I woke up and realized- "holy shit. im leaving 1/2 way across the world tomorrow, by myself w/no immediate friends/fam in those cities"

Anxiety/Anticipation level has been creeping up all day. If any of you guys wish to meet, im game. Want to go out nigh-time 4x/week.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

RE: First time traveling alone
First time I traveled alone. I pipelined a lot before I went over. It really calmed my nerves. That way you have friends before going over.

I am currently on a trip now, and I am glad it was not my first time solo traveling as I had a hard time the first days. Rocking up in Hong Kong without having a place to stay, and then find out all hotels were booked was not ideal. Walking the streets trying to find a quiet bench in a park to sleep in is not relaxing.

Don't worry. Most likely you'll have a really good time, and if not you will grow a lot for your next journey.

In a few days I'll be in Bangkok also. Just have some gambling plans in Cambodia first!

RE: First time traveling alone
Taipei has been epic so far. Details to come...Some teasers for you folks- Paul Van Dyk live at Luxy in Taipei (Weds/ladies night), 1 girl attacking me on Weds and refusing to stop kissing/hugging me bwahaha, Partying on Thursday at an AYCD place(ladies night w/loads of taiwanese students) (ehhh, sounds fabolous but its dangerous because everybody wants to take shots w/the tall half-asian foreigner!
