I sorta tried it and it wasn't legendary.

people left my immediate area to go find a signal. It chased away targets so my only way to interact with them was following them, and following someone around isn't really a position of strength.

If I turned it off people resumed their phone activity. If I didn't they just remained frustrated and flighty which made it even harder to get their attention and have a good interaction.

For me the solution isn't to destroy the phone, but to be more interesting and engaging than the phone to begin with.
