What do you think is the most livable Latin American city? I don't mean the one with the hottest or easiest girls, but places where you could live most comfortably, it's not so dangerous, good transportation, where it's not too poor, where you aren't going to get parasites from drinking water and that sort of thing?

I would nominate Santiago and Montevideo as the best cities for general quality of life, at least of the places I've been. I really liked both those 2 cities quite a bit. I didn't think the girls in Chile were that great, they all had flat asses for some reason and didn't dress too well, but the city itself is very nice with perfect weather, great public transit, pretty safe and has the scenery of the Andes as a backdrop so you're never far away from outdoors activities. You can also drink the water and not get sick and people look clean and healthy. And one of the best things is that the corruption is low. You don't have to worry about Chilean cops messing with you and shaking you down. It doesn't happen there.

Montevideo I really liked too, for many of the same reasons as Santiago. Low crime, safe to eat and drink, weather was nice, plus it has beaches. The culture, girls, food and architecture was very much like Buenos Aires, but the city had a much more leisurely and laid back feel. I'd rather live in Montevideo than Buenos Aires for that reason. B.A. is just too closed in chaotic. And the beach in Montevideo makes up for a lot too.

Although I had the most fun in Rio, the favelas and crime make it impossible to ever feel at ease, and the corruption and cops in Brazil are pretty bad. I've heard about tourist getting robbed by the cops! I hear the water isn't safe to drink too, though some say it is, I don't know for sure.

Costa Rica is a mecca for ex-pats from the US/Canada.

Panama is a second runner up!

However, my recent travels to Honduras definitely places this underrated country in my top 5 of places to retire/live.
