The whole purpose of buying a status symbol like an Iphone is to attract women. It's a type of big-dick display to whip one out.

I have a difficult time imagining hetero men deliberately handicapping themselves on the sexual market by winning this prise.

All I ever use my phone for is voice and text. Any other function it has is related to status.

They're way way too common to have any status like that. I reckon they're actually more popular with chicks then guys too.

I mostly agree with the status symbol thing. Problem is all the models of iPhones look the same.
So girls are buying up the cheapo used 16gb ones for $99 or less and thinking their shit don't stink.
A new iPhone 5 looks exactly like a 2 year old refurbed iPhone 4.
There has to be some visible difference to leverage status.
