Yeah, it's an amusing but meaningless test. The questions are too vague to get at a person's real political philosophy. And the fact that nearly every mainstream politician as being on the authoritarian right shows that these guys have strayed pretty far from the accepted definitions of left and right, authoritarian and libertarian. It's probably pretty easy for centrist American political figure to get stuck next to Hitler on that test simply because the questions don't really go all the way in terms of authoritarianism. The closest it gets is saying "some groups of people are meant to dominate others", there aren't any questions like "Humans should be selectively bred to fulfill specific roles in society and then assigned color-coded jumpsuits that signify their class and role." Or on the labor side, it's just "society shouldn't support those who wont' work" rather than "People who don't work need to be sent to concentration camp in order to teach them to concentrate better."

On the other hand it is still rather amusing that the US political center is right up in the corner of right-wing authoritarianism.

It's fascinating the amount of us who hover near the slightly left, halfway libertarian point. Like I said earlier, I always thought I was right wing, at least socially. I don't know enough about ecomoics to be certain where I stand. There weren't many (if any?) questions vis-a-vis multiculturalism, immigration etc, so perhaps they would have changed my results.

Interesting test but pretty meaningless. The questions were very loaded towards a mainstream left-right equilibrium. Not a lot of room for a nuanced opinion. For example it made me choose whether or not a multinational corporation was good or badd (mmmkay) with no in between. Obviously if the corporation went about securing land rights the right way and didn't use coercion it would be a good corporation (Apple), but if it just went in there enslaved the locals and stole the land it would be bad.

From the results it definitely appears that the international members almost always fall in the Green quadrant, and most of the Americans fall in the Purple one. With obvious exceptions. Interesting.

You have to remember what we Europeans consider Right wing the Americans consider left. If the Democratic party existed in the uk it would undoubtedly be considered right wing.

Economically without doubt, but it would also be seen as 'socialist' or 'liberal' or whatever because of it's approach to multiculturalism, affirmative action etc.

Pretty much on point. Indifferent to cultural issues, nonchalant on immigration, abortion, gay rights, but extreme with libertarian views on business.
