Rio for Carnaval
Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum and was referred to it by Roosh. I will be traveling to South America for the first time this weekend. I will be arriving in Rio from Chicago on Sunday Feb 14th and flying out on the 21st. I could use some feedback on 3 things:

1. Any recommendations on where to stay? I've been looking for hotels and apartments and it's day light robbery right now. I know it's last minute but didn't think Brazil was this damn expensive.

2. Anyone wanna meet up if you'll be there during those dates? If so hit me up!

3. What side trips out of Rio do you guys recommend? I was planning on stayin in Rio from the 14th-17th, assuming that's enough time to get a feel for the city then head somewhere else? Any suggestions? I was thinking BA, Floripa or Buzios?

Thanks!

If your entire trip is 7 days, I'd just pick one city. I've done whirlwind trips like that before, going to 4 Italian cities in 9 days, and I wish I'd had more time to sink my teeth in.

And hell yeah Rio is expensive, and vastly more so during Carnival. Did you really think you'd find cheap accommodations over Carnival???

You're screwed unless you can pick up a cancellation in a hostel like Mellow Yellow or Mango Tree. Otherwise you can try staying in Niteroi which is across the bridge. Lodging prices triple during Carnival on top of already inflated prices.

Can't go wrong with Buzios and Floripa if you like the beach. Go to B.A. if you want to party hard at night.

RE: Rio for Carnaval
So I think I actually found a cheap place to stay in Rio for Carnaval. I looked on craigslist and this girl will be out of town and wants to rent out her 1 BR apt. It's in Leblon which I hear is a nice part of Rio.

Do you guys have any suggestions on where to go after spending a few days in Rio? I was thinking Buzios since its pretty close and should be easy to get to and back to Rio to catch my flight out on the 20th.
