Survival School
http://www.squadschool.com/

Caught wind of this particular program from Simon Black. I am totally down for the concept but, in this instance, I don't think 4 days is enough time to really hone in essential survival skills. I'd need at least 4 weeks if not 4 months. $1500 for 4 days seems like a racket. Ithaca ain't nearby either.

You guys know of any other (more reasonable) ones?

Maybe I should call this guy.

Study some survival guides and go practice. Start by doing what you can around the house, like building fires, sharpening blades, then go on short camping trips. $1500 for 4 days sounds like a serious ripoff.

Seriously good advice. The only way you will learn is by doing and by experience. Hike out to the middle of nowhere for a day or two and you'll learn how to survive, it is hard wired in men.

RE: Survival School
For $1500, you could equip yourself with a bugout bag, an inexpensive .22, and enough ammo to live off the land for months or even years.

The only things worth a damn in those situations are mental clarity and dexterity in certain skills like building a fire. That involves practice. The other thing to consider is that very often you will need to compromise comfort in order to survive. If you can't mentally handle rolling around in mucky shit to keep you from getting hypothermic then your mind wont adjust its priorities correctly and you will make poor choices that may hurt you.

RE: Survival School
I am going to bump this thread to get more input on if anyone has attended a survival, wilderness, or bushcraft school. If you have one to recommend, I would really appreciate it. I have some time off coming up in the next few months and would really like to gain these skills. Thanks!

RE: Survival School
I haven't been to one but I watch Dave Canterbury's videos on youtube and he is a wealth of knowledge about all things survival related.

He runs The Pathfinder School out of Jackson, Ohio. They offer different classes. Basic, intermediate and advanced and specialty classes like blacksmithing and trapping.

Again I can't speak from experience but I would like to take a class there one day, something for you to look into.
