How will technology change game/dating
Online dating keeps growing. Video-chat online dating sites are on the horizon. Location-based (GPS) applications are also popping up. What other technology driven dating trends do you see in the future and how will it change the game?

Quote:A few days ago Facebook rolled out a little feature called 'Friends Nearby' that was, well, potentially a stalker's dream come true.

That might be why the social network decided to nix the feature just a few hours after its 'release.'

'Friends Nearby' allowed users to activate a feature on their Facebook app that would use your phone's GPS to determine your location and bring up people around your location. However, once the user exited the 'Friends Nearby' page, the location finder would turn off.

'Friends Nearby' shared similarities with another application called Highlight.

Highlight, which was introduced at the technology conference South by Southwest earlier this year, allows users to view profiles of people around them. It shares the names, mutual friends, pictures and other information Highlight users decide to share with people using the same app nearby.

Facebook never officially announced the 'Friends Nearby' feature on its website because the product was under testing, according to a company spokesperson.

“This wasn't a formal release - this was something that a few engineers were testing. With all tests, some get released as full products, others don't. Nothing more to say on this for now – we'll communicate to everyone when there is something to say,” the spokesperson said in a statement to CNBC.

But with privacy concerns weighing on the social giant, Facebook may not want to officially launch the 'Friends Nearby' product again.

The social network firm has taken heat recently from users for changing the display of its users' email addresses without permission. Users default email was changed to their Facebook username followed by @facebook.com.

Facebook has also been the target of criticism by government authorities who say its privacy policies are too complex.

Most recently, Facebook agreed to add to its international privacy and compliance team at the request of the Irish Deputy Data Protection Commissioner, Gary Davies. .

RE: How will technology change game/dating
I'd like video dating, in some form, to succeed. Instead of relying mostly on looks and spamming as current online dating requires, game would become a bigger factor. I'm not a bad looking guy either, but I'm not in the top 99% of looks. If you were, I bet you could kill online.

All that aside, the prospects don't look good. Online dating is still marginal. With smartphones now and Google Glass in the future, look for even more girls to be plugged into their circle and closed off to everyone else but celebrities. I see a ton of that already - how social circle often trumps game if you want quality.

Of course, there's always socially retarded techies who think their inventions will improve society. They won't.

"Location-based (GPS) applications are also popping up."

In terms of heterosexual dating, anything location-based will fail. What's a woman's biggest concern? Safety and security. Letting the world know her location and she loses both.

RE: How will technology change game/dating
I think technology and social media will eventually turn all girls into professional cam whores. Technology gives them a shorter path to constant attention, validation, and reward from men for doing the least amount possible. Cam whoring is about the shortest path I can think of to that end.

It's funny how all this technology is making us revert to the most socially barbaric behavior and communication. There was a time not that long ago where people would write long form letters full of thoughtful prose to each other as a common form of correspondence. Now we basically electronically grunt at each other.

RE: How will technology change game/dating
One of the worst things that's already happened is that every girl with broadband access thinks she has a realistic shot at the most attractive guy she's seen, anywhere, on the internet.

She sees him, sees he's looking, and automatically thinks she can nail him. It's just a question of him getting a plane ticket from his Hollywood Hills home to her small town in Moldova.

But it might not be as bad as it looks--only the already emotionally dessicated are spending hours a day to begin with on Facewhore-- the really hot chicks I know ( not too many granted) are too busy living life to fool much with facebook. Their boyfriend[s] are always trying to get them out.

Broads be nosy.

I imagine that there will be a lot more online reputation management companies for daters. People to get you off of "don't date him girl" and spread misinformation about you.

"Well when I googled him, I saw the hedge fund that he worked at. 47 billion under management."

I think a lot of women are using facebook purely as a marketing tool, or for attention whoring. Hopefully technology can help men take control of their destinies and it can finally work in our favour.

I don't like technology in this instance either, but I'm not sure it's fundamentally responsible - it may just be making these changes happen faster. The whole concept of a guy being 'out of her league' doesn't really make sense when monogamy is not on the table. That is, if she just wants to fuck, a 9 man is in no way out of a female 6's league, insofar as he is willing to have sex with her. Why would a 6 settle for a 6 when she doesn't mind a string of 8s and 9s.

Also, the vast majority of the audience for techno attention whoring is the girl's friends - look at their Facebook pics and see who 'likes' them. It's not guys, it's other girls. See this scientific report on the matter - http://www.theonion.com/articles/female-...the,27446/

technology is enabling sluthood for sure, but when I was in Ukraine (2011-2012) the economy still sucks enough that to have any kind of comfortable life (meaning having an apartment where the couple have privacy, reliable good food) the majority of chicks still need to get married.

She just can't afford her own apartment unless she's one of the minority in IT ( they make about 1000/month), is hooking (which since most guys don't need to buy doesn't pay a huge amount unless she's super).

In the West we forget the basic things are much more affordable, and sex life is much more divorced from subsistence needs.

But technology will make subsistence needs more widely met almost "automatically"; and that will further make them super-hypergamous as you describe. The White God window is closing. ( No race hate intended, it's just the best metaphor)

online game and most non-personal game sucks (my opinion). cam-dating only will take off, if they manage to invent a dick filter (chatroulette) Big Grin. i dont see chicks doing cam connection on dating sights easily. they have a reason to hide behind an online profile

Look for attention whores to accumulate even more beta orbiters on facebook.

Quote:Facebook on Thursday announced a new tool that offers users the opportunity to buy gifts for one another. It is the company's latest test of whether users are willing to spend money on the social network - and it remains to be seen whether it will make money for the company.

The gifts range from cupcakes to sunglasses. Facebook will earn a slice of the proceeds from each transaction; a company spokesman declined to say how much but said each partner company had a different revenue-sharing arrangement.

Facebook already reminds users when it's time to send birthday greetings to their Facebook friends. It will now enable them to send a gift along with a greeting. Gift-givers can pay with a credit card. Recipients will have to offer up their offline addresses so a gift can be delivered. The tool will roll out incrementally, starting Thursday, initially in the United States.

"You can post your gift to your friend's timeline or send it privately," the company said in a statement. "Your friend can then unwrap a preview of the gift and it will show up on their doorstep a few days later."

Commercial transactions represent a small slice of revenue for Facebook; most of its money comes from selling advertisements on the site. But it has sought to diversify its revenue sources in recent months as it struggles to prop up its sagging share price on Wall Street. This year, it announced that it would allow users to buy products and services in their local currency, using a credit card. The main things bought and sold on Facebook are associated with virtual games.
The gift-giving application was built by the team that created Karma, a San Francisco start-up firm that Facebook acquired last May.

On offer are things like cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery ($35) and a box of pears, plums and apples from Frog Hollow Farms ($54). Warby Parker, the New York eyeglass company, has eight styles of nonprescription sunglasses to choose from, each at $95.

It is the first time Warby Parker has tried selling directly through Facebook. "If we see a lot of uptake with Facebook gifts and a lot of engagement from consumers from using the Facebook platform," said Dave Gilboa, one of the company's co-chief executives, "then we would feel more comfortable building a real Facebook storefront and allowing people to transact using Facebook."

How will technology change game/dating?

I'm afraid. I'm very afraid. If it's anything like the past ten years' technological changes...god help us all.

RE: How will technology change game/dating
Web cam use is common in SE Asia. Has been for at least a decade.

I'm ugly so I always pretend my cam is broken, but it's saved me plenty of time that would have been wasted meeting her in person just to find out she doesn't pass the boner test.

Instead of letting the girl see my cam I let her see old photos of me, and be unpleasantly surprised by my current appearance when we meet. Whatever - as long as I can get my foot in the door things tend to work out.

Have to say though, some girls look good live on cam, but are secret internet ugly fatties.

Well, here's how I plan to leverage tech to my advantage.

1) use it to get rich
2) use it for advanced health techs and reconstructive anti-aging biotech.

Wealth is the old mans long term game. Hypergamy likes wealth.

I've met a few western girls who took a year or two off to be some Sugar Daddies travel companion. They don''t seem to miss the years, and the man doesn't miss the money.
