Avoid the police at all costs. Especially if you don't speak Spanish. They will try to accuse you of anything they can think of and ask for money(pissing on the street is the most common one i hear of). My aussie friends went last spring break and they had to pay $500 for "pissing on the street" when they did nothing of the sort.
I suppose a good way to avoid this is DON'T carry around any cards with you and go all cash. This way, they'll take your cash rather then making you go to the ATM.
Other then that, they said they had a blast.
Haven't been to Cancun in years. When i went, it was the time of my life. I'm sure it has changed since that time though.

RE: Spring Break: Cancun
After much research I finally booked. The price was pretty nice I think, round trip with ocean view king at hyatt for 5 nights + shuttle to airport + Cancellation Insurance came out to $1000.

I'll slip the porter or front desk a $50 and try to get more visitor passes. I read on this board they only give you 1.

Now I just need to find cheap eats and things to see during day

Down there twice for Spring Break
I went down there twice for spring break about 8 years ago. First time went a few weeks too early for the main crowd. So was mainly just girls from the midwest. The next year got the week right and it was packed with lots of drunk college girls. Spent the days at the hotels, beach, or bars that had contests and the nights in the crowded bars. My friend and I both brought home college girls to bang.

Since I'm not in college now, what are the most popular places to go now?

RE: Spring Break: Cancun
Already some years ago (2006, after the hurricane). What a disappointment. Much shouting around, maybe even showing tits, but at least I got nothing. Also my two friends. Well, one of them was making out with two girls in parallel. The girls were actually quite boring if there was no camera around. I had to pretend to be from New York, they hated the fact that I was European!!

In general I was never really successful at these mega events. I have the feeling they are overhyped. Or maybe I was just never the guy for this kind of mega events (my game is not enough energetic; and my game was weak back then anyway). A good strategy seemed to get to know the girls already in the hotels during the day. And while most guys went home empty handed, some party alphas and lucky drunken ones had a good time, it seemed.

I just posted in the forum my experiences in most of the cities I have been to!

For the record if anyone was wondering I'm in High School within Canada and the Spring Break is March 12th-20th. Lots of Grad Trips going down to Cancun this year, much more than in years past.

If you're looking to hook up with drunk party girls flying in with the "what happens there stays there" mindset, you can find that in Vegas 365 days a year without getting Montezuma's revenge. It's not like you'd be experiencing the "real" Mexico anyway.

Vegas is a lot more expensive though.

For a good look at Cancun, check out this recent Travel Bum episode on Cancun.

It can be summed up in 3 words:

I take it that High School Senior week is the week after graduation then? Sorry when I hear that in Canada I presume the person means Spring Break. But I graduate on the 29th of June so I guess it would be 30th through 6th, Ill be down south somewhere that week anyways celebrating graduation ahah.

RE: Spring Break: Cancun
I'm in Cancun now. Anyone here or know anything about this high school senior week? What's the strategy for both daygame & nightgame? I'm guessing the beach & hotel pools for daygame and the dance clubs at night. However, most hotels only allow guests.

I did find this website: gradweek.com. Seems like they organize the trips, so the timing just depends on the week that a particular school chooses. And with many schools going different times, this 'senior week' may go on for 4-5 weeks just like spring break.

Here is the million dollar question:

When is the high school senior week?

Not the most precisce answer, but the best I could find so far (Also note this was as of 2007, but assume it should still be the same):

"...Know that the last week or so of May through mid June is normally high school students for the graduation trips. Still busy but fewer college students and a little more directed toward that age group. Any other time of the year there will not be "student events or hotels" it wil just be normal Cancun-still beautiful and fun but not so much set up for high school students."

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g15...nsula.html

I've got a feeler out to get more exact information, will post back with details.

Cancun
Been in Cancun and Isla Mujeres about a week.
I have been staying in hostels in Downtown Cancun. I took the bus to the Zona Hoteleria to check out the party scene. It was reasonably crowded, but way too noisy and obnoxious for my taste. The mega clubs there were packed, but it didn't spill into the streets like I was expecting (I think it was thursday). Playa Del Carmen was actually slightly better in that regard

Downtown Cancun has quite a few bars and clubs. The bars had like zero sets, and there might have been a few sets in the ridiculous nightclubs with their annoying ass strobe lights, but I didn't stick around. Anyhow, overall, pretty dead (went out on Friday and Saturday).

Note that I am here mid november, which is one of the deadest times of the year...

I am not impressed with Cancun, at least as far as locals go. The hostels have some backpacker chicks, but nothing special. They do party pretty hard at some of these hostels, and go together to the hotel zone. The hostels offer package deals at around $50 a pop.

So far the best scene I could find was in Isla Mujeres, which is a $5 ferry ride from Cancun. Its a laid back island with some suprisingly upscale bars.

There is a hostel there called Poc Na. Its supposed to be the oldest hostel in Mexico. Anyhow, some people hate on them because they don't have a kitchen or fridge you can use. And you can't bring in alcohol (they have a bar inside). But they are on the ocean front, have a beachfront nightclub in the hostel, and was stocked with girls. Quality is average, but it definitely was a bit of a hook up spot. Girls from europe and USA as well as some locals on weekends. And its cheap. about $12 a night for a dorm. The hostels is HUGE. The dining room, patios, volleyball court, hammocks, and club are almost the size of a football field. Its like a mini spring break vibe almost.

The local Mexican girls are about as unnattractive as they get. Generally expect the square faced indian look with the coke can body. And my responses from them have been very weak. In Guadalajara I was getting much better responses from far better looking girls. Then again, I did mostly daygame which is maybe a little weird for them here. I did, however see some 7's and 8's in the central grocery store. Usually with boyfriends or in a hurry looking like the last thing they wanted was to be approached. There is a bit of an American professional vibe to the girls that I didn't feel in other cities. I did see an 8/9 with what looked like strong african blood. I also opened a 6 Russian girl that didnt go anywhere.

Can't speak for quality in the hotel zone clubs because I didn't go in, but what I saw on the street did not impress me.

My mission here has been to meet a normal, attractive girl who lives here. So far I have failed completely. My worst city in Mexico, by far. I did meet some cool guys but I did not get their contact info which could have led to social game. But I shouldn't have to do all that anyhow...

That's pretty much been my experience with Cancun as well. Best luck I had there was sitting at that beach bar at Isla Mujeres. Women just waiting on the next ferry. But as an adult there during a non tourist time good luck. Whatever the cover is at Coco Bongo is worth it. It's all you can drink and the show is amazing, beats anything I've seen anywhere else in the world. Great place to meet women after everyone is boozed up too, it's a really different experience how they line you up to watch the show.

Man thats not that bad of a shakedown. I got a legitimate "pissing on the street" citation for $250 once (Canada)

I flew into Cancun during last years spring break. My dumbass hopped on the first bus down to Tulum to see the ruins and sleep in that little town instead of staying in cancun. That was before I found this forum.
