Very nice report. I just have to nitpick at one thing - agricultural society? How? Serbia excels at producing various mechanical stuff, and two major car manufacturers have their regional factories there. They also have a very developed chemical and food processing industry. From that phrase, one might conclude that it's a country where people get up with shovels every day

Gentlemen, here’s a short report of four days in Belgrade:

Accomodation:
I stayed first in a private room at the Hedonist Hostel for 35 EUR/night, later at El Diablo hostel just at the corner of Skardalia and the “silicon valley” street. Small private room with private toilet and shower for 30 EUR/night. The room had two beds in it, and bringing a guest overnight would be of no extra charge. Both hostels had extremely friendly and helpful staff. Recommended!

Food:
Nothing worth mentioning except the Little Bay restaurant. Built like a theater with velvet loges. Live music in the evenings - classy bar jazz with a lovely singer and a piano player. Try the delicious honey duck or the trout with mushrooms. A meal is only around 10 EUR.

Going out:
Start the night at one of the bars on “silicon valley” if you want the pretty crowd, and after midnight head to the clubs. The high season for the floating clubs on the water (spavs) is over now, but the splavs are fun nonetheless. Freestyler, Blaywatch, Schlepp... They are all lined up. A taxi from the old town over the bridge is around 500-600 dinars (~10 EUR).

Generally, there is no cover charge. If you don’t have a reservation, the bouncers might ask for 1000 Dinars that goes in their pockets. We got in one night for free, the other night he asked for money, which we could easily negotiate down to half of it (5 EUR, so not even worth mentioning).

Avoid taxis waiting in front of clubs, they will try to scam you. Take the ones with a purple taxi light on the roof. Also make sure they have “TX” on the license plate.

During the day:
Not so much to do in terms of tourist distractions, but you have the fortress, the parks, lots of good cafes to chill and watch people. Just walk around. The Nikola Tesla Museum is worth a visit; they show live experiments on electricity. And, of course, day game: Main shopping street Knez Mihailova.

The city has a bit of a rough feel to it, but people are really friendly. Several times they offered me raki shots and made a point: “I hope you see that the media is showing us in a wrong light, we are not bad people.” As always, don’t rely on media and even forum post so much, go with an open mind, use common sense, and make your own judgments. The English of most people is good enough. Also, all restaurants, cafes, and bars have free wifi. And fuck, the city has some hot woman.

Jesus H. Christ, don't let your height be such a barrier for you. I'm 164 cm tall and I got a number from a girl during the 6 hours I spent in Belgrade.
