Question Apps
I had what thought was a decent idea for an app on tablet and smartphone that could be really useful and beneficial. Only flaw is, I know absolutely nothing about programming, and have no background in this field.

1) Assuming it's possible (recommendations if you think so) should I dedicate myself to learning a programming language in a few months, and produce it myself?

2) Or would I be better off trying to find a collaborator who could realise it for me, and have it better developed by an experienced programmer, but risk losing control and any profits?

The second option would probably be easier, but I don't want to pass up the possibility of making something for myself, or the chance to learn how to do something technical

If you don't want to pass up the chance to make something for yourself, then go for it. I'm sure there are some basic programming books out there that can get you started.

RE: Apps
You can pick up books, buy guides from people from Fiverr.com and search programming forums. The downsides is that it's going to take a lot of time but once you learn you can make new apps whenever you want without depending on someone.

The guy who created "iShooter", an iPhone app, earned 600k in just a month I think and he didn't even know how to program before

RE: Apps
Definitely go for a) , its much more time consuming, its the hard way. But in the end the benefits are way more.

I would suggest you go straight to learn the programming language needed for your selected platform, even though you don't have previous programming skills.

Besides which, good ideas are worth nothing. Seriously. TRY to get someone to steal your idea--it's not easy, because the difficult part is bringing it to fruition. If you can do that part, you control the power.

RE: Apps
Ideally, start with a) but if you find somebody on the way (= on the web) to help you out on tricky stuff, don't hesitate and partner up.

Good luck.
