Getting laid is something else entirely.

Probe for areas of disatisfaction with their lives and meet their needs

While demonstrating value to meet that need, and doing it over and over.

It also helps to have a target audience who is looking for what you are selling. For instance, if their toilet has been over-flowing every week, you are going to have an easier plumbing sale than if the store never has had a problem. If a woman is ovulating (look for the signs), she's probably in a DTF mood. But you need to be there first because the woman (store) might already have a whole list of guys ready to do her (telephone book).

RE: Why do people compare game to sales?
Rather than compare game to sales/marketing, I think it's more accurate to say that they both depend on the same underlying principles.

Gymnastics and boxing, for instance, both require great body awareness, general fitness, coordination, mobility, good reflexes, etc. And while being a good gymnast can certainly help you acquire boxing skills more quickly, the fact of you being a good gymnast will not automatically make you a good boxer. And vice versa.

Competent seducers and competent salesmen both make extensive use of psychological triggers like 'social proof', 'scarcity', 'authority', 'kino', etc. But knowing how to apply a principle in one domain doesn't necessarily result in success in another domain.

Guys who come into our BJJ gym who have Thai boxing experience usually have better movement, stronger pressure, better balance, and so on. But if they've never applied these physical principles to this particular martial art, they're still going to be pretty retarded on the mat and will get tapped a lot.
