So if you happened to have watched the second episode of NewsNight, the new HBO series from Aaron Sorkin, you would have seen the female Hamster in full flight.

Jeff Bridges plays the anchor -- an emotionally stunted friendless news star. His ex-wife, McKenzie (?) comes back into his life to be executive producer. During this episode she inadvertantly sends an email to the entire NewsNight company about the fact that, in the past, she cheated on Bridges. This revelation of course, humiliates him.

Then she walks into his office and in a kind of frenzy of apology and self-justification says she cheated on him with her ex-boyfriend because she wanted to see if she really loved Bridges, and after the sleazy cheating was over, she realized that she still loved him.

Now, I think Sorkin is a died-in-the-wool Hollywood liberal, and the show if chock full of trite liberal sentiments, but this particular incident was astonishing and, surprisingly, wonderfully portrayed the female hamster in full flower.

What will happen, of course, is that the female audience will nod in agreement, "Yes it wasn't REalLY cheating because it was an effort for her to find herself."

And I bet the left-wing Sorkin believes that hamster rationalization is also valid ...and that the humiliation of the Jeff Bridges as the "alpha" anchor is...well....how things go in the new world of female careerism and empowerment.

It is both brilliantly accurate in that sometimes accidentally insightful way.

Here is a bit of the the behind the episode stuff. McKensize, the ex wife and cheater, supposedly the epitome of the in-control career woman, is a complete wreck.

I don't understand what her ridiculous hamster spinning has to do with politics. It's true the lengthy political sermons from the two women in the cast (the ones on illegal immigration come to mind) were painful to watch but the main character Jeff is a Republican and it's not like Conservatives don't have mega white knight tendencies (especially the Evangelicals and Pentecostals among them). Not everything single thing boils down to politics and if anything Jeff being the hero of show with his big long speech at the start of the Pilot sends the opposite message then the one you think the show is trying to convey about older career men.

Oh, it has a whole lot to do with it.

First off, Bridges speech at NOrthwestern was chock full of classic liberal tropisms -- we're umpteenth in infant mortality, yada yada yada. Sure the character is conflicted, but when they bring in the guilt for the the Sarah Palin "apologia"...well, gimme a break.

Second, Sorkin IS a died in the wool Hollywood liberal (just watch 5 minutes of the West Wing, assuming you won't wretch).

Third, my point about this particular aspect of the show -- the McKenzie speech where she pleads it wasn't REAL cheating, because it was her attempt to find out if she really loved him -- was a complete Hamsterization episode that, as I said, was pretty astonishing. Women of all political stripes have the tiny clawed feet running the wheel inside their heads, but it is particularly active and energetic in feminist left wing career women, like McKenzie.

And YOU know it.

Well, I guess feminists are so secure in the knowledge that they're dominating the public opinion that they have no shame anymore and don't even try to keep the hamster out of TV.

As for that line about "checking if she loves him enough to go back", it's my favorite to hear whenever I bang a girl because I know I'll be getting at least a few more.

Saw that episode last week.

It's clear that British Chick and Newscaster have tension in their work relationship. It's been implied that they had a romantic relationship in the past. It's clear to me from jump that she cheated on him and that's why they aren't cool.

But the Office gossip is that HE cheated on HER. Soi when Brit finds this out, she has to protect his image as a good guy (beta/lame).

To protect HIS image (lol) as a good guy, she tells some chick that it was the other way around.

So to help set the record straight, she sends an email to Newscaster that he needs to "protect his image", but she ends up "accidentally" sending it to the entire office.

The truth gets revealed that it was her slutting around, and the newscaster rolls out. But by fucking some other dude, she realizes that it was newscaster who she actually loved.

I did it for the relationship type bs.

The scene changes and she's drinking alone @ some bar, while her co-workers, underlings are yucking it up.

But the whole show is full of great RVF hamster moments
- ep 1 - Older Brit Cougar manipulates her younger counterpart to play a relationship game with some younger and fugly chick.

- Olivia Munn gets into the serious news thing cause Brit Cougar wants to girl power up her newscast, but needs some legs to sell economics. (lol @ olivia munn being a econ professor newscaster. Where? Strayer? foh)

- ep 1 - alpha show runner who was messing with fugly chick ditches meeting fugly chicks parents, cause they've only dated for 3 months. Sorkin makes the audience feel sorry for the chick, and dude's a dick. But she's hopelessly in love with him.

There's so much game to be analyzed in the show...

I've never seen the West Wing so I wasn't familiar with the politics of the shows creator.

I do. The smarter and more (over)-educated the bigger their hamsters and neurotic behaviour. No surprise the more degrees a woman has the more likely she is to be an alcoholic.

Lastly, it's completely ridiculous how a woman with a British accent could be so patriotic. They even made a reference to the weirdness of it in the first episode.
