Yelp in Canada?
Anyone notice that people don't really use Yelp in Canada?

The people using it for Canadian spots are mostly yahoos from America.

What site do Canadians use?

Side note:

Before a bunch of weirdos on here come out and start saying, "OMG, LOL, LOL, The G Manifesto uses yelp!!! He must be fake!!!"

I don't really read the reviews because it's mostly idiots on there with out a clue, but it can be helpful for addresses and closing times.

Nope never really heard of anybody using Yelp around here, I think foursquare is bigger where I am, but it might be because I am a bit younger than the Yelp target market.

RE: Yelp in Canada?
Yea Yelp has not caught on in Canada at all yet. I was surprised how useful it was even in smaller American Cites compared to Toronto's.

What cities are you hitting up? If its the large 3 (Van, TO, MTL) then most have dedicated blogs. One network 'Freshdaily' runs a blog for each of em' Toronto's being the most built up though of the 3.

MTL: http://www.midnightpoutine.ca/

RE: Yelp in Canada?
Agreed - the reviews are useless, but Yelp is good for finding locations. Businesses are able to pay Yelp in order to remove bad reviews. Check this out:

G - you probably have friends in the restaurant biz. Ask them if they've every had Yelp hit them up. My brother was a kitchen manager at a popular restaurant and Yelp called several times offering to remove negative reviews in exchange for getting a Yelp "membership."

Maybe it's just me but Yelp has some kind of advertising deal with BellAliant (Atlantic Canadian Cell Phone Company) so I've seen people using that before here. Couldn't give you much info on it though as I've personally used other sources most times.

RE: Yelp in Canada?
I've found some great restaurants through Yelp while travelling. There are a lot of useless reviews and utter yahoos giving out weak advice, but if you sift through it it can be a solid resource

Yeah, I guess that would be closest.

That site kind of sucks though.

UrbanSpoon mostly, easy because there's a good iPhone app for it too.
