Situation: 10 pm on a friday night at a 24 hour coffee shop.

I get this from time to time as I am working in the coffee shops, only on the weekends.

Apparently they think I am a loser because I am holed up in a coffee shop when everyone should be out partying.

Any good responses to this?

I have been going with:

"Is it friday already, damn my internal clock is all messed up"
"Your friday is my tuesday"
"Im still on the clock, that what happens when your clients are in different time zones"

How do I appear as not a chode when dicking around on a laptop at 10pm on a friday night at a local hometown coffe shop?

This, got work in the AM.

I prefer going out on Sat nights here at the Jersey Shore during the summer anyway.

Me too. I frequently say what DLuzhin wrote above, solicited or not. In my case, it's come up when girls want to leave my apartment on Friday or Saturdays, rather than "just watch a movie."

"Fridays and Saturdays are amateur nights [or Junior Varsity nights]. Every sloppy drunk, attention-whoring club rat, and 'weekend warrior' is out crowding my favorite spot. Fuck that."

I sometimes ramble on and on about how "cool people go out Sunday through Thursday." Invariably, the girl agrees with me sooner or later. I never thought about it, but this is probably a so-called DHV.

I would use a couple of different replies based on how I'm vibing with her:

"Don't want to completely ruin it for the little kids trying to learn the ropes"

or

"Clubs are boring. The party I'm going to doesn't start until very late"

I'll frequently ask this question just for shits and giggles and to get conversation going, regardless of what night it is or in what context. I'll ask a girl what brings her out to the bar on Monday or Friday, and act a little incredulous or teasing either way. You don't need a valid reason to tease.

When girls do it to ME though, I usually shrug and give the noise for, "I dunno" and act incredibly bored and change the subject. To me it comes off as a slight neg and the minute girls start pulling that shit I act negative in response to cut that shit short.
