Inspired by kickboxer's suit thread, I wanted to start a discussion about lapels.
There are three kinds. Within these three general types, there are also slight variations.
The notch: most common and traditional
The peak: which is a little more formal and fashion-forward
The shawl: which is the most formal of the three.
I prefer the peak lapel.
I have a few suits, and handful of jackets/coats in my collection so far.
I recently bought a single-breasted, one-button peak lapel charcoal suit jacket.
I have a single-breasted, one-button notch lapel charcoal suit.
The above two are pretty casual
I have a single-breasted black shawl lapel jacket with engraving-like designs on the lapel. Same color, but the satin fabric makes for an interesting look. I'll wear this if I want to "peacock" a bit when I'm out.
I also have a black single breasted three-button suit that is for when I have an interview or a formal event that doesnt call for a tux.
My favorite is the single-breasted one-button peak lapel, which I bought for 11 bucks at a thrift store.
What are your favorite types of lapel, cut, vent-style, etc?
I'll post pictures as soon as I can.
Also, this youtube channel is very helpful and the guy doesn't come off as a homosexual like that guy from that Alpha M Image guy. Although he does have some good advice.
Here he discusses the difference between a sport jacket and a suit jacket.
Another video where he discusses the types of lapels
