What province you in?

If your looking to pick up business skills then go to your library or hit Youtube. No point shelling out cash to learn stuff that was relevant 5 years ago. IMO top business people don't need school its a skill your born with. Many just use school to lock down contacts or maybe refine other skills but the passion and back knowledge is already there. Me School is about refining my skills, I really should start a business but I need to know the finer skills and how to connect and establish a proper group.

If it is something you are passionate about though then maybe its not to bad of a move. Just IMO its better to take the time off first and think. 18 I didn't know shit and surprise I almost jumped into RE right outta HS. It would of been a bad move because its a dogs job unless you got connects like you do. Glorified Ginzu Knife pusher but instead of shitty blades your pushing Stainless Steel and counter tops to phsyco wives.

And truth be told some specialized aspects of certain fields does make it harder. People are sniffing them out and yes more people are now going after those few jobs.

Yeah, awesome points. School for me would mostly just be about refining my skills anyways I truly believe I already know enough to go out on my own and start a full-fledged independently run real estate company but I feel like refining my skills first would also make it just that much easier to get my feet off the ground for starters.

Not that kind of Real Estate more in the "Property Management and Development" field is what I'd be heading into as soon as I feel ready to take the shot.

I would suggest going to college. People WILL judge you on whether you did or not (most of all, employers), you can learn a lot and have great experiences.

However - and this is a big however - I would on no account be willing to rack up a big debt to do so.

I recommend making the most of your college years, hustle and make money while you are there to come out debt-free or cash-positive and with some work or best of all, entrepreneurial skills.

Many of the above comments focus on the fact that you don't learn anything useful at university. This is usually true but the main purpose of going to university is just to obtain the credential. it is fine not to get it if you plan on never being in a situation where you need to be hired by someone. Otherwise, it will generally be required unless you go into a trade, in which case an apprenticeship or trade school degree will suffice.

Not everybody is cut out for the hustling, nomadic lifestyle. You're only 18 and still figuring yourself out. Having a degree or trade certification is important if you want to be employed.

Awesome thread, I think I could do that if I want to because if I don't go to school somewhere next year I'm going to be out west earning money for at least 5 months anyways. Also I plan to either transfer to an American University after 2 years or start in January at somewhere like say Clemson. Maybe rush and get into a Fraternity (we don't have real fraternities in Canada either).

I want to get that American University feel that we don't have in Canada, but then again weighing that against travelling around the world for 6 months on-off for a year or two sounds pretty tempting too.

Since your parents are business owners, I'm going to assume you're at least middle class. I'll also assume your tuition and living expenses will be taken care of while you attend university. Correct me if I'm wrong. Work while going to school, save the money, then study abroad for a semester your junior year, and then take a semester off right after that. You'll have a year of international experience.

Studying abroad is something I'm 100% for and sounds better every time I think of it. I've got some ambitious goals that I want to get to before 25 (1.5M in Real Estate, 2 Months of Travelling anywhere per year) and to get these I think University is the best bet for me realistically.

Cool, man hope things pan out for you. Also, don't forget to network relentlessly while abroad if you like the place and if you plan on being employed there. It could be tough depending on visa issues, etc but at least you'll be hustling towards something and making contacts.

I think for most people, school is worth it, assuming you wont have debt afterwards.

The pros or me were that I definitely did learn a lot, personally and inter-personally. College is an experience that can't be had anywhere else, and I think the college experience is something that you can use to connect to people from now til forever.

Can't say I learned anything of value at all in class, and it's too early to tell how valuable my degree actually is. It's nice being able to say I'm a college graduate, but at the same time, I have no idea what I'm going to use my degree for. As a member of this forum, I think we're like-minded in the sense that we don't want to spend our time working for someone else, and being stuck in the same place. The case for almost all my peers (as recent grads) is that they're either moving to the nearest large city to work for some corporation, or they're stuck at home complaining about how shitty the job market is. I spent a lot of my time in college reading books on the side, and a lot of time working out, and college definitely provides an avenue to do some independent learning.

If I could re-do it, and my advice for you. I'd go to school if your parents are paying, or if you dont need to take out loans. I would definitely study abroad, as that was something I hugely regret not doing. Decide your major ASAP, and make sure it's not something stupid like Sociology. Should be something you enjoy, but if its not, then try and take something you're good at. Take the easiest classes you possibly can so you can dedicate your time to doing other things that you value. Spend a lot of time investing in your personal goals. Network. See if you can transfer after 2 or 3 years. Also, I don't know just how important GPA is. I feel like it works on that 80/20 law, in that you learn 80% of the material with 20% of the effort. After that it takes hours of studying to get minimal %s on your exams. Maybe it would have been worth, it maybe not.

Thanks for the info brotha. I'm pretty sure I'm going to head into a Marketing Major when I go to school after I fell in love with the book "The Art of the Sale" maybe even minor in a language or something as well as I've already started learning Spanish VIA Rosetta Stone lately.

A semester abroad in either Barcelona or Prague seems like something I really want to do as well.

Pretty excited to get all this Graduation B.S. over with so I can sit down with myself and make these decisions about my life.
