Hey,
I'm a graduate student at USC. There is a cute Chinese (from China) girl in my M&A class, I want to get to know her better. The thing is, all the Chinese/Asians in my classes are pretty cliquey (my masters program is like 70% asian) and stick to themselves.

Im wondering what would be a good approach to ask her out? If I should go up to her after class and invite her out with friends (for example, 'my friends are doing XXX this weekend, wanna come?') or just forward 'would you like to meet me for coffee'? Or ask one of the Chinese girls that sits next to me if she's single (Im sure they all know each other pretty well)?

PS I speak Chinese pretty well (lived in Taiwan for a few months with my asian-american ex girlfriend).

Do you ever see her around campus? I would just go up to her and start talking to her in Chinese. This automatically sets you apart. Or if you have any class get togethers or functions make it a point to start talking with her.

I go to a business school that has a large student body of foreigners and many of them are very cliquey. One reason I came to this school was to meet and interact with foreigners, so I just go up to them, introduce myself, and start talking to them. Or if you see one that you sort of know eating lunch, just sit down at their table and join the convo.

By the way, how are the girls in Taiwan? Most of the Taiwanese girls I've met have been pretty hot.

My mergers & acquisitions class is so boring, a lot of my time is spent staring over in her direction.

Taiwan is fucking special, I can't imagine a better place. I have so many friends there and had such an amazing experience...

If you're a white guy you have no problem getting girls. I would go out with friends and the servers at restaurants would try to hook me up with their daughters, girls would approach me on the subway, write cute little notes like "can I be your friend?", take random pictures of me, etc. It was pretty nuts. The clubbing scene is awesome, taxis and alcohol are cheap. There are tons of hot locals, ABC/CBCs, and white girls.

What about trying to time it so that you sit next to her in class?

Or alternatively, when she is leaving class go talk to her and comment on something she is wearing or something she said in class and then start talking to her.

Before thinking of asking her out, you need to figure out a good opening spiel, maybe related to the class or her ethnicity. If you ask her out right off the bat then you're just hoping she likes you based on your look and initial vibe.

I would establish some attraction with teasing (cultural differences perhaps?) and then see if she at least asks you basic questions like your name/major/etc.

In your conversation hit a topic that you can talk more about. Then suggest a date (drink, smoothie, coffee) where "we can talk more about ______, among other things. "

come on dude. just walk up to her, say something fly and keep it moving man. have some confidence, its an asian chick. You're white, check. You've got 90% of the work already done for ya......ps, if you're over 5'9", there is a 99% chance you'll bang her bfore the end of the week, if she's single.....i'm jus sayn man, do your thing.

Here's the update:

I've been a little bitch. She sits next to this other Chinese girl in class and so I started talking with/hitting on the friend, and we're pretty close now, but we've never discussed the target. I still haven't talked to her. However, to my surprise, the other day we were supposed to form new groups and as I was walking by her and some of her other Chinese friends asked me if I wanted to be in their group. So now I will get to know her, and I know once we start talking, it's on like Donkey Kong...

I'm really hot for her...yesterday before bed I got those 'crush' feelings that I've only ever felt in middle school/high school. It was nice to feel that.

Also, I cut all contact a month ago with my ex-girlfriend who was giving me problems...leading me on after she was sleeping with another guy, trust issues, using me... fuck that. I liked fucking her, and I still may again fuck her again in the distant future, but right now she needs to leave me the fuck alone.

To my credit, I met one of my friend's friends. We were sleeping together within a week of meeting each other...reminds me of that song "Seven Days" by Craig David.

Blah, I just found out she has a boyfriend.

It might be better that way. I'm not sure I vibe with chicks whom I really can't talk to. You need to speak English (her English sucked). I'm now going exclusively for asian-american girls and preferably chinese ancestry, so that I can practice my 中文 with them.

I'd rather just not get involved. It's a very painful thing to get your girlfriend taken from you.
