I almost always call blonde girls 'blondy'. They almost always seem to like it.

But now some non-English-speaking Colombian friends started calling me "Bam-Bam". I guess because I'm big and loud? Anyway, not too bad, right?

Question is, can I try this one out among Anglos?

Sure. "Bam-Bam" is a weird name, no doubt, but it's intriguing and guarantees you a solid two minutes of conversation on how you got it.

I had a fantastic nickname in college, came about naturally but was genuinely cool.

Don't have one now, feel like it's a little silly at my age (only 30, but w/e).

I have a very common first name though, so when I put my name in girls phones I put the last name as "chaos", because otherwise I'm probably not the only one in there with my first name.

Had lot's of nicknames growing up. One a bit negative was "Spock", because I'm very rational/logical. But I didn't care ("Embraced it" as you'd say today). Spock kicked ass. One of my more recent nicknames (similar to my User Name here) will be the name of my company.

On age and nicknammes. Unless you're a real kiljoy with a rod stuck up his ass nicknames work at any age. Helps keep you thinking young.
