I dated a girl for some months while I was in Peru, and I still keep in touch with her and care about her. I found out recently that her ex followed her to her office at night a few days ago (she works alone there). He forced himself in and took her cellphone, read some of my messages and starting raging out. He pushed her into a wall, hit her a few times on the face, threw her around by her hair and ran off with her cellphone. She was semi unconscious by then. She reported it to the police immediately after, but she tells me that police in countries like Peru really don't give a shit. And all he needs to do is give the right people a few hundred dollar bills and it all goes away. He's been harassing her by phone for some time prior to this.

She ended up in hospital for 48 hours with a concussion and some bruising.

If I was still 20 years old I would jump on the first plane, find the cunt and crack his head open. However I find myself a little older and wiser now...

What would you do in this situation?

It's Latin America. All options are on the table. Queensberry rules and fair play don't really apply.

A lot of crime is committed with impunity before the law, as you're discovering. People sometimes take justice into their own hands.

It's important to find out what she and her family have in mind. They are the ones who are going to eat any potential retaliation for whatever action is taken.

The family will find local hookups to friends in low places to do whatever they want done.

Shaming the guy in front of his female relatives (mother, grandmother, sisters) can be effective. Would have been better if it was done during the harassment and phone calls stage.

This is a very important point to take into consideration. You don't live there, so you can't be there to handle business if shit really goes down. You don't want to make things worse for her and/or her family.

Also this is not a girl i just had some fun with for a few months and never saw again. I was with her quite a while when I lived in Peru, I am very good friends with her brother, I know her parents well etc etc, and we're still very good friends.
