Thing is I'm staying in pousadas/hotels. Rio should be cheaper for me if I find a room to rent.

I stayed in Rio for about 2 weeks a couple of years ago, in Copacabana. To be honest, I would not recommend living in Copa if you intend to stay for the long term.

The whole neighborhood is seedy and quite dangerous; you are right next to all the favelas where all the street thugs come out to mug the tourists. If you've been following the news, there have been a few incidents in the past where tour buses have been held up and the passengers robbed of their valuables. One friend who went down there during Carnival was hit over the head with a steel pipe in a mugging attempt. The neighborhood next to Ipanema or Leblon beach might be safer, at least it looks nicer, more residential, and isn't seedy. But it's probably more expensive.

Fortunately, I've never had anything bad happen to me, but I felt pretty paranoid with all the favela types roaming around, especially at night. Word of advice: if you do go down there, wear sneakers instead of flip flops. That way, if you're walking down the street at night and you're accosted by a couple of street kids, you can run and get the hell out of there really fast.

Anybody lived in Cordoba?

I'm curious how much a 2-3br furnished high end penthouse-type would cost there. All I can find on the internet is BsAs listings, low end apts, and rooms for rent, like for a student.

Not necessarily. I payed 600 USD per month, Copa near Ipanema, but decent area. For 1500 USD you can get a pretty damn good place.

Good advice. I thought the same in my first week in Rio, wearing sneakers all the time, now I wear flip-flops all the time.
