given that a huge % of argentines had friends and family tortured or "disappeared" during the u.s.-backed/trained military regime during the "dirty war," i highly recommend reading "chasing che: a motorcycle journey in search of the guevara legend." the author truly understands how quirky argentines, "italians who speak spanish and think they are german," are.
a colombian girl who lived for a year in bs. as. told me that her friends like europeans and not americans because of political reasons. i think if you were to read this book you would acquire an invaluable conversational tool to use during your travels.
