The Cult of the Land Whale has become the official creed of the USA. Being healthily thin is considered a punishable offense while being a walking heart attack is something to be praised and encouraged. Maybe they'll change their tune once land whales start dropping like flies.

Girls in major cities, especially international hubs, are not representative of the major population. The effect is reversed in the US, the female populations of LA, NY, and DC are thinner than the general population.
