Is this an anti-obama ad? Im 6 minutes in and there have been already 2 "things are worse now than before obama" references. Who is paying for this? I would have tought that the BBC would be neutral.

This is a documentary produced by left-wing socialists who were unhappy with Obama's progress as a left-winger.

There's a democratic congressman defending Obama who said, "Look, Obama never promised to be a hard-line leftist or anything."


Regardless, I found it to be a good documentary to show you what life is like for the bottom 1%. The gap between the rich and poor in this country is huge, but really is a direct consequence of the recent bailouts. While regular men who lost their jobs were forced to fend for themselves, rich assholes who fucked up the entire economy were rewarded with trillions.

Now the government cannot support its citizens while a few go around like kings. I guess this could only be described as insanely evil.

For every minute of showing poor people they should show a minute of finance guys poppin bottles in the club.

F--- BBC. Love the international coverage, but they don't EVER miss an opportunity to criticize the US. They treat every US school shooting like the SALT II treaty or something, somehow relevant to everyone in Europe. Their part-time job, evidently, is to convince Euros the US is a bad, bad place.

A $12 minimum wage is a spectacularly stupid idea. There's a relationship between wages and prices. When wages go up, prices go up. When prices go up, demand goes down. When demand goes down, companies lay people off, because they're not making enough money to pay them. An increase in pay to minimum wage workers would never get the chance to offset the loss in demand, because companies tend to plan on a farther time horizon than consumers. In other words, as soon as such a law were passed, minimum wage employers would immediately start laying off people and cutting back on hours to keep their costs down.

Jamie Galbraith is the same guy who argues that the U.S. government doesn't have to worry about debt, cause we can just print more money to pay off that debt. These are ideas that were all tried in the post ww2 era and they worked pretty well for a while. Unfortunately, there comes a point where you can't keep driving the economy by creating artificial demand and you end up with stagflation. This is especially the case now when the rest of the world has much more productive capacity then it did in 1946.

Yeah, I've always found that kind of strange. A lot of ppl are like "hey with UK media you get awesome coverage of U.S. stories that aren't covered by U.S. media," but honestly when I see that stuff I just wonder why they care so much.
