Bad.

It doesn't create any suspense. ALWAYS create suspense. It's like saying after first date; "so, when do I get to see you again?".

I think a lot of guys in here are getting numbers without having created the suspense first. I've been making that mistake the past half year. That makes it an uphill battle. If you created an aura of mystery and piqued her interest, and she is a serious girl, she will pick up the phone and this lets you build a far stronger connection if your voice game is tight.

Less serious girls who give out their number more often will not pick up the phone, but she still might respond to text.

So, think about what the acquainatance merits: did you guys hit it off really well, and is she a serious girl? Call her. If the connection was less memorable, text. Needless to say, you should always go for strong connections with girls serious about meeting someone cool, so in an ideal world, you would ONLY be calling. But sometimes texting is better.

Sending a text is less aggressive and a good move if she's on the fence. She's not at the point where she'll comply with your advances. If you had a strong connection, she'll respond well to a more aggressive approach.

For instance, I met a 19yo at the airport not long ago. Girls here are super-flaky, but she was cute, an 8.5, and had brains. Our convo was brief, like 45 seconds, but super-direct and strong eye contact.

I gave her a ring. She picked up, we talked a few minutes, then I said, "ok, well, nice talking to you. I gotta go. We'll talk later". No mention of when. A couple days later I phoned her to schedule a date. WHAM! she went out of her way to find time for me. We had a good time, she showered me with texts afterwards and the bang followed. Definitely worth the patience.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

RE: Leaving your first voicemail
I hate getting voice mails, and I hate leaving voice mails..now imagine a hot girl getting a voice mail, she probably hates them even more, Unless you have the voice of the dj on 98.7 kiss fm It can only demonstrate low value.....avoid voicemail at all costs....I even have my voice mail message saying "don't leave me a voice mail, I don't check them" lol which seems to make chics leave omg type voicemails anyway putting me at a higher level from the jump.

I am the guy who sometimes re-records my voicemails like 5 times because I didn't like how it sounded or I didn't say something right. I used to be worse, It's like 1-2 times these days. Experience trumps all.

Ha, yeah,

I used to "re-record" my messages sometimes, but, as my game has gotten better, I try to get it done on the "first take"!

When you don't have to "re-record" and they are calling you back quickly, you know your voicemail game is strong!

LOL. I used to do that too. me and my friends would get a kick out of it...sometimes if someone was doing it on speaker so we could all hear we'd steal the phone from whoever it was and just press send on a really dumb bad one that we knew he was gonna delete and re do ... LOL good times

p.s. - I didnt mean I dont do voicemails ever...I just def don't do them when its a girl I havent banged yet.

Do you just call and hang up if she doesn't answer? Or do you go right to texting instead? What works for you?

Texting. Most young women I know rarely like to call.

A female reader I met in person (age 22) told me that phone calls were "too formal" and that even if girls told me to call them they probably would be too chicken to respond. Since then I've gone to almost exclusive text game until after the first date/meeting/whatever.

...aaaand last week a chick I met online told me to call her, I called her and left a VM, have never heard back. It's all text from here, welcome to the 10's.

Also, more than one woman claimed she didn't get my voicemail, which I thought was bullshit, but there is the chance they were telling the truth - phones fuck up, networks fuck up, there's extra steps in retrieving a VM. It's risky.

One of the deep rapport questions I use as a routine is about rehearsing phone calls. I often roll a discussion about how cell phones now allow you to re-record the voicemail so you don't have to rehearse. Sometimes I follow with a story about how I was planning on leaving a VM but the person picked up, so my non-rehearsal came back to bite me. Then I can segue into our over-stimulated culture and how it's a shame people can't connect anymore. Boom, tight routine.

A chick who doesn't rehearse her calls often telegraphs that she works in PR, HR or some other stranger-facing job, which signals extroversion and comfort with novelty.

I know it happened too, as I'd often interrupt doofuses at the bar trying to hit on her by just making out with her and then walking away, or there was the time I had to threaten to beat the shit out of some hipster at Whole Foods. Good times. Today, I'd probably just say, "Go ahead and take her if you want her, no refunds though!"

This is an interesting report, but there's some unknown factors:

1) You don't know if she spoke first to the guys to provoke them so she had something to use against you.
2) It sounds from your description, unless you were just judgmental from, cough cough jealousy, that the guys were very inept and weren't going to get anywhere with her.
3) I've Beta-Stalked hot chicks around places like Whole Foods for a few minutes at a time, not for an hour granted, but not many strangers if any at all talk to them. See number one -- it may be different if she is actively trying to provoke opening. If she speaks first, it makes it 1000 times more likely the average guy will make a go.

1. Possibly, but most of the instances I observed were from guys hitting on her. She was attractive and had a unique look, that got her hit on a lot. The funny thing is she was actually pretty shy.

2. I definitely had jealousy issues back then. Regardless of how inept a guy was, I didn't have any qualms about crushing their hopes on the spot. That's one of the biggest differences with me today, I just don't get jealous anymore. Every girl is replaceable.

3. The guy from Whole Foods worked there. 'Can I help you with something?' was probably his pick-up line, I don't know. He added her to myspace and started sending all sorts of messages trashing me (someone he'd never met) in the hopes he could get with her. She laughed and told me he was too ugly, but out of principle I had to make a trip up there...

My guide for newbies to RVF.
