You have been lucky. It is up to you if you want to push your luck further, but I wouldn't advise it.
Quote:3. Most guys don't start shit with me here, most Ukrainian men are not very strong and do not know how to fight. I'm 6'6', and although i'm only 205 lbs, it's enough to make most of them think twice.
You seem to expect a fair fight one-against-one. This is just ridiculous. What you're more likely to get is a knife in your back, or a wrench on your head, or a pepper spray into your face outside the club followed up by a bunch of people beating you up. Or a couple of police officers beating you with "democracy sticks" how we call it.
Quote:I have been in a couple of situations here, only last week there was this fat disgusting guy at a nightclub here, he was in my face for something, he could have probably crushed me if he got his Gopnik claws on me, but these guys usually do not escalate.
He may do it next week, or next month. As I said the people there have good memories, and if you pissed off someone, be sure he'll not forget it for a while. Watch your back. That's how people got murdered there "for no apparent purpose".
I 100% agree with Old Nemesis here and can tell a story that backs up his "murdered for no apparent purpose" theme, in exactly the manner he described it. Deb's in Western Ukraine, so it's probably better and less prone to random violence, although I have seen Russian tourists beat up in Lviv at a bar for speaking in Russian and not Ukrainian by some drunk Ukrainian nationalists. In the Russian part of Ukraine it is more dangerous. Do not push your luck. One of my Marine Corps friends started talking to a chick without realizing her boyfriend was sitting at a table nearby. Her Tatar mafia boyfriend took offense and got in my boy's face. He couldn't speak Russian so I told the dude that my friend did not know and would stop and that we'd go on the other side of the bar. He kept getting in my friend's face even after I tried to calm shit down and eventually I got pissed off and told the dude to go fuck himself and we walk away. 10 minutes later the guy comes up to me and starts buying me drinks and apologizes for his behavior and starts talking to me and being friendly. I was already drunk before this all began, so a couple more drinks and I'm really getting tipsy. I'm stupidly starting to think he's an ok guy. The dude says he wants to go outside and smoke and it's a bit loud inside to talk. We go outside and all of a sudden 4 guys jump out of a car and I'm surrounded by guys with guns and knives. The dude starts screaming in Russian, "Who the fuck do you think you are? I'm going to bury you tonight!" etc, etc... I'm thinking that this is not the way I want to go out, killed for some stupid shit at a fucking club. And I was so fucking pissed off at myself for letting myself get set up like that. It could have just been a bluff on his part, but I saw the guns and knives, so it's a pretty serious bluff. The only thing that saved my ass was that I was a regular there and all the bouncers knew me personally. In about 30 seconds these 5 guys were surrounded by about 15 bouncers.
Back to chicks, yeah, Old Nemesis is right about the "Dynamo." Those are gold diggers in training. Besides the noun "Dynamo" there's even a verb, dynamit' (I know, sounds ridiculous is English), but you can say "Ona dynamila ego" -- "the girl dynamo-ed the guy" i.e. Took him for a ride, made him buy dinner, drinks, etc and didn't give him anything.
It's just a numbers game over there. You got to deal with a lot of that kind of shit before striking gold. Even after years of living over there and being able to identify dynamos quickly, it still happened to me more frequently than I'd care to admit.
I feel strange making a compliment about American girls, but at least at some level, due to all the human rights shit in the USA, a girl will recognize you as a human and can eventually, with much trouble, feel guilty for using a guy. With the Russians, a lot of the girls have an exploitative/extractive mentality. There's no guilt at all for trying to exploit the guy. On the other hand, we're trying to exploit the girls to get laid, so it's a big game really -- who can exploit the other more -- you have to drop a lot of your own Western upbringing and values to go native there -- once you do that, the right path to take with these girls becomes more clear.
I still maintain there's a lot less of this in Western Ukraine than in Eastern Ukraine. The Western girls seemed more genuine, but harder to get for quick lays. But 90% of my experience is with the Russian speakers. The Russian speakers were easier if you're more willing to spend money. They'll always try to extract more shit from you by calling you greedy "Zhadnii" if you're unwilling to spend money on them. The money component is important enough with the Russians that if she goes and makes the comment to her girlfriends that this guy is "zhadnii" they'll all agree that he's not worth it. I tried to find a balance with spending money and getting what I wanted in return. They will push you hard for every last kopek you have if you don't put limits on them. You have to show them you are willing to spend money -- but only when she pleases you and at no other times.
I agree with Deb that it's better to be strong and silent. In fact, I think the most appealing personality to Russian girls is the Chechen mafia type. A lot of them like elements of criminality in their men. The Chechen guys had the right combination of a brutal and ruthless violent streak and then sweet charming pillow talk that the girls couldn't resist. It was "contrast game" for lack of a better term. Maybe it's changed and become more civilized since I was last there, but that's what it was like 6 years ago.
Hey Deb, they still got Millennium and San Remo club in Lviv?? I had some good times at those places.
