So, I'm curious, what kind of luggage do you guys usually carry? I'm assuming most of you are pretty minimalistic when it comes to travel.

On my first trip around the world, I just carried one backpack (Deuter Futura http://www.amazon.com/Deuter-Futura-28/dp/B004LZFJ42) and kept all my shit in there. I still think this backpack is godly and if you don't care about aesthetics, it's really solid. I also refuse to check luggage at airports (for obvious reasons).

I'm looking for something a little bit classier than a backpack that I can match with a suit. Thinking about grabbing a nice, leather laptop bag and get a small carry-on suitcase. Any recommendations?

I'm rocking a 60L backpack and laptop case.

In retrospect, a tough rolling suitcase and a smaller backpack as a carry-on might have been a better bet, even though I'm doing a quintessential 'backpacking' trip.

Recently met a girl who was rocking the rolling suitcase while doing the same trip I am - SEA, India, Europe - and she sold me on it.

I'm in the suitcase crowd, I've now completed two years travelling with a suitcase and think it's much better than a backpack. There are very few places I can't wheel my suitcase and it's much easier than a backpack which really starts to get heavy after just a couple of minutes.

If you do a side trip that is more rugged you can usually just park your suitcase somewhere and use a smaller backpack for the trip.

From my experience your best bet is a rolling duffel. Also, try and get something on the lighter side, because when you are carrying a bunch of shit and bouncing around if you go over certain weight limits airlines will whack you with a pretty good fee. So getting a 7 lb bag vs. 15 lbs could save you a $50 fee many times over if it puts you over 50 lbs.

I've been loyal to Da Kine for years. I got the rolling duffel shown right here: http://www.dakine.com/p/bags/luggage/guy...uffle---lg. I got the all black though. It says it weighs 9.2 lbs, but if you take out the shoe bags and some dividers you can get it down to about 8. I get the over/under suitcase and a backpack that all match. People think I'm somebody special at the airport.

Maybe I'm on my third set or so? When I was in the Navy I put serious miles on those things and they held up perfectly. The only reason I got new ones was for looks. The old stuff has all been handed out to family/friends and is still in good shape.

I like to travel as light as possible, and avoid checking bags, so I roll with a hard carry-on sized suitcase (the one I have is by REVO, with a zebra-striped pattern), and a backpack for my laptop, cameras, ipod and assorted knick-knacks. I also came across this backpack made especially for a camera and backpack. It's from The Hundreds (it's called the Paparazzi Backpack), and I'll start taking it on the road.

I am a luggage whore and drop big $$$ on designer luggage every couple of years. I travel a lot and like to do so in style. My latest purchases are these two Louis Vuitton bags.

I use this black LV Pegase 55 as my rolling carry on when I fly. It fits everything I need for a weekend away inside quite comfortably. This bag gets me so many openings especially in Russia where women can be so materialistic.

I had the shop in Bond Street hot stamp my initials onto the luggage tag which I think is class ( I sound like Patrick Bateman ffs ).

Finally for walking about in foreign cities I like to go continental and use a man bag ( no homo ) to carry essentials like camera,phone,cash,copy of Bang etc. I am currently using this LV wash bag for the job. It holds everything snugly.

I have to think about if i will use a backpack again the next trip. A suitcase would be better but i think i"ll lose the adventurous feeling without an backpack.

No hating here, i like the Luis Vutton bags but they are only suitable for a city trip. when going city to city with suitcases like this, they would be destroyed when put in South American or Asian busses.

Carrying an LV bag in SE Asia I think just screams knock off. See backpacker chicks rolling around khao san and everywhere with there new acquired LV knock offs, feeling like Paris Hilton.

I've tried a few bags for various trips over the years and I think the right one really depends on how long you are traveling, your style of travel and what sort of wardrobe you are packing.

I've rocked a canvas duffel, 34 litre laptop backpack, my friends old 66L hiking pack which he donated after busting a shoulder strap mid-way through a trip (I stitched it up with dental floss and it held up so I just shoved my smaller pack inside). I've tried a roller on a few occasions and still have mixed feelings about them.

I'm leaning towards one of those carry on hybrid rolling backpack things for my next big trip. Best of both worlds. I prefer to take the minimum while being prepared for most occasions I will encounter. The only advantage of checked luggage is being able to pack a multi-tool and not stress about liquids. What i dislike about the hybrids is you loose so much space with both the gear on a bag. Maybe a roller with a single shoulder strap like a duffel - anyone seen something like that?

I have a german military rucksack..
I've never seen anyone buy german military carrying them..and no not many people believe im military so i dont worry about the political aspects
65 liters.

I've been searching far and wide for a suitcase that would just hit the 62" linear requirement for United Airlines. UA counts "wheels and handles" in their requirement and most 29-30" spinners are over the 62" requirement. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I don't want to show up and be charged an extra $200 because my suitcase is deemed a few inches over.

I found this one at JC Penny today and used a measuring tape on it. A nice piece of luggage that's is exactly 62" and is very light. No spinner wheels, but you can't have everything and it's on sale for $169.99. Here's a link to it if anyone else is searching too.

Tumi or bust. These bags are the best bang for your buck. Yeah you'll have sticker shock at the price and maybe even a little regret after you buy one(because of the price) but these bags are the best. They last a decade(literally), professional, and conservative yet stylish. I have two tumi bags - a briefcase and a carry-on hardcase piece of luggage. I highly recommend Tumi bags.
