A Zara suit costs about 300 bucks in Singapore. A custom suit will cost about 750-800 bucks tailored by one of the best here [http://www.cyccustomshop.com/]. They are making shirts and suits for the Prime Minister of Singapore. If it's just 400 bucks difference, I would go custom all the way. Why should you settle for less?

if you're wearing a custom suit and a fancy watch but take a girl back to a 1 br rental in a less than ideal neighborhood, the incongruence will be stark.

as others have said, the best way to go for a while is cheap suits tailored well.

I have $3000 Zegnas and $500 Hugo Boss suits. "you look great!" sounds the same to me when I'm in either. but the Zegnas are for my own personal pleasure.

If you are ever in Shanghai, head to the silk market. It is an entire mall of nothing but fabric merchants who will make custom suits for you.

They have western catalogs there from high-end suit labels, and you simply point out the design you want and select your fabric from the stall. I chose English wool.

The merchant takes your measurements, you come back in 3 days for a re-fitting with the partially assembled suit, and then in 6 days you have a custom-made suit.

Price? $55 U.S. (Depending on your haggling skills).

I had 3 suits made up here: navy blue, black, and a black pin-stripe. I would have got a charcoal one as well, but I already owned a suit of that color at the time.

My only regret is not buying more of their suits. When I wear mine, I out-shine everyone in their store-bought suits. Store-bought is good enough, but custom just looks different.

Just came across this - apparently a couple guys on an internet forum devoted to style got together to make top-shelf English shoes at more affordable prices by manufacturing in Taiwan and Laos. Limited selection, but they've received very high praise from very discerning aficionados. Prices are $425/$460 + S&H. They're supposed to rival ~$1000 shoes.

I'm not connected to this in any way, figured I'd give a heads up. Not looking to buy right now, but these guys seem to have done a great job of delivering stylish shoes at a relatively low price point. Didn't want to start a new thread.

It's really funny that people on SF are okay with Taiwan/Laos, cause for the most part, that's a very blueblood kinda crowd.

Thomas Pink, is not only mass market, but since it's no longer made in Western Europe, and in Morocco and Romania, it's of lesser quality. Unless it was initially from Asia, they pretty much look down on anything not made in Italy, France, or the UK.

Lot of provenance snobbery throughout that forum.

And speaking of, if we got any forum members in Northhampton, they can swing up to the factory and buy factory 2nds for most of the important brands in English footwear.

What's with all the "Custom Suit" talk on here? Jeez

I very rarely wear a full suit out, more common is suit jacket and jeans. I like to mix things up.

I believe that when a man reaches his late twenties/early thirties he goes through a suit stage, will almost always be in a suit jacket at night-time. I have also noticed that these guys tend to be trying to hide something, maybe they are on the skinny side, and are trying to get more of a V-shape, or they have a beer belly that they are trying to prevent flopping out

It's a Zara suit actually. The fit could be better around the shoulders but it does the job.

I've worn it maybe half a dozen times. My preliminary findings while wearing the suit:

1. I get more looks and compliments, from both men and women.
2. My standards go way up, so I actually approach less. Very few women are good enough when I'm suited up.
3. I spend more money, like I'm a mini-baller or something. Wearing a suit has a strange psychological effect on my spending habits. I make it rain.

Because of number 2, I actually get less than if I don't wear a suit. My hypothesis is this: I will pull less, but what I do pull will be higher quality. So we'll see as I continue the experiment. I like it enough that I'm looking into buying a second suit.

It will basically say how the suit should match your lifestyle, but the suit in isolation will not make much difference in your overall results or feedback you get from women.

I think there is a miscommunication as to what Roosh meant by 'isolation.' I believe he meant that wearing a suit should be in the context of a certain lifestyle and way of carrying oneself.

For example, when a couple typically boorish frat guys decide to suit up and hit the town, but it is so incongruent to their identity that their suit scheme will be seen as obviously superficial. The suit on its own -- in isolation -- will not help them.

Btw, blazer or a sportcoat with jeans isn't suited anymore, it's throwing on a blazer with jeans or khakis. It's more casual. Not to say it's not a sharp look, nonetheless.

You can also just get stuff at outlet stores (Saks Off Fifth, Nordstrom Rack, Century 21, Barney NY Outlet), hit end of season sales for 50% off and make the occasional full price purchase on a stylish suit or something.

After travelling in Asia and seeing how freaking cheap it is to make stuff, and how cheap it's sold for, there's no reason why you can't get a majority of your suits for like $600 or less, and a decent pair of shoes for $150 at Saks Off Fifth or Nordstrom Rack. That is, if you're close enough to factory sizes and can bring to a tailor for minor alterations.

I am heading to a wedding next week. Summer wedding but everything is indoors. I don't really know what to expect or what kinds of people will be there because I was asked to be someones date. Is a three piece suit too much? My date said I would be fine in slacks and a tie but I don't really take her word. Any advice/thoughts?
