RE: Johnny Storm (Human Torch) is Black in the new Fantastic Four Movie
Yeah, I grew up reading comic books with all these DC and Marvel characters as white, too.
And I'm an old fuck who read them when Jim Crow was still active in the USA.
All of the classic comic heros date from a different time, the 30s to the early 60s, and they were all drawn white. The Human Torch dates from 1961.
The only black comic character I remember from my childhood was that black guy with the bugle from Sgt. Fury's Howling Commandos.
It was a big fucking thing when there was a show on TV starring a black woman playing a nurse, Diahann Carroll in Julia in 1968.
We white people have Superman, Batman, Captain America, Spiderman, The Hulk, Thor, The Wolverine, Green Lantern and Green Hornet, Wonder Woman, The Flash, etc. Surely we can throw a few of the legacy characters to the brothers?
You young guys have no idea what the world was like back then. It was like black people were invisible on media.

Off the top of my head: War Machine, Blade, Barracuda (one of the baddest Punisher villains of all time), Bishop, Spawn, Storm, Black Panther and Luke Cage are all black and awesome. Although Storm's always been kind of annoying.
Instead of changing a historically white character into a black one, they could make new movies with any of those characters or just rebooted some. Blade was one of the best comic book movies ever made.
The biggest problem, in my opinion, is hypocrisy. Do you know what would happen if some moron in Hollywood tried to remake Blade with a white actor instead of a black one? That shit would not stand. The SJWs would freak the hell out and destroy anyone involved in that project. Meanwhile, they encourage people to change white characters into minorities and any pushback is "racist."

RE: Johnny Storm (Human Torch) is Black in the new Fantastic Four Movie
I agree with Sp5. If you know your comics, they have been doing this loooong before all these modern movies. There is a black Green Lantern for example.
I actually have hundreds of Fantastic Four in bins in my house. It's one of my favorites and I have rare ones.
I kinda prefer a white Johnny Storm, just due to the Cali Surfer guy vibe he is supposed to have and I am not sure a black dude can pull that off very well. Maybe he can, but I need to see if first. Doesn't matter though. Chances are the movie will suck anyway. It's not like you are going to see serious arcs being done in any of these movies. They just constant reboot the shit out of these like Spiderman. No silver surfer cross arcs, I doubt they will do Galactus, I doubt they will show Franklin Richards altering reality having powers 1000's of times stronger than any mutant. They may make 10 FF movies and Franklin may not ever go past the age of newborn.
For me, as a former hardcore fan of the comic, I say meh.

For example if the character was a backwoods farm boy from Idaho and they turned him into a street hustler from the Bronx. I remember people getting pissed off that Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves were playing samurais, along the same lines.
Other than that, I don't really give a shit what race he is, as long as he's a good actor. Like someone else said, there probably aren't too many non-white superheroes floating around in the first place, so they've got to make some changes if you don't want every movie being completely white.
Although being the brother of the girl does make this unnecessarily complicated
It's being done for the typical political and financial reasons: trolling white comic nerds (who are like gamers in that it's acceptable for SJWs to shit on them) and to generate controversy/publicity.
They could've included some of the characters I mentioned above in the movie (which could lead to a standalone movie for them depending on how well the movie does) or made up a new black hero but they didn't.
It's all about race-trolling. You make a change like this, wait for traditionalists to object and then tar them with slurs and act as if this is proof that your absurd SJW worldview is correct. As much as I love Idris Elba, they're going to do the same exact thing with James Bond and no one stops for a moment to ask why.
It's actually more of an insult to black people, in my opinion, to just turn a white character black as if black characters who started off black to begin with aren't good enough. I would be interested to see Aaron McGruder's opinion on this.
Anyway, if this were a long-established black character being turned white the SJWs would be screaming about institutional racism, white-washing and cultural appropriation but since it's in the reverse it's tolerant and progressive.
This is one big con job that benefits them no matter which way you slice it.
Racial controversies = publicity and potentially big money

Isn't a bit hypocritical to support one but be against the other? I doubt anyone on this forum is going to see the next Ghostbusters for the reason that they switched the genders. So why does it make you a Stormfronter Nazi if you are opposed to switching of the characters races?
Can you imagine the forum response if someone in that thread seriously posted "if this really bothers you, then you clearly have a misogyny problem"?
It bothers people because they're messing with a character that has been that way for a longtime because of obvious political and financial reasons just so their supposed SJW betters can insult, shame and scold them for objecting.
Is it all that significant in the scheme of things? Not really, but it's just another example of the culture war bullshit they've started and their underhanded tactics are always worth exposing so people recognize them for what they are.

We're obviously talking about men here, you guys know this. Its not like this actor is a woman. Its just a Black dude. Equating the two is a false equivalency.
You're missing the forest for the trees and I don't think you really know what's going on. It is not exactly the same, obviously, but it is done for the same reasons by the same people.
Go Google some clickbait articles on this and pay attention to the comments. Traditionalist fans are voicing concerns and SJWs are having a field day insulting them, just like they did with gamers who object to their bullshit.
The SJW movement in comics is a big thing now. They turned Thor into a woman and implied all sorts of nasty shit about anyone who disagreed with that.
And being annoyed by changes like these doesn't mean someone's racist or misogynistic. They could also just be tired of their bullshit, like I am.
