Jesus.

I'm going to have to agree with The Texas Prophet. These threads have just gotten dumb. No more race topics for me. I already avoid them in my life for this very reason but clearly discussing them online is impossible too.

Also, why are blacks in so many countries prone to committing crime (Brazil, USA, Canada, UK, France, etc.)? It is comical to pretend that the high black crime rates only happen in the USA. They seem to happen anywhere there is a large black community. How long can the "legacy of slavery" be used as an excuse to gloss over the facts regarding crime?

Where are your sources for these claims? The majority of Brazilians have some measure of African ancestry (the majority), and that is another country with a shameful history of slavery and inequality.

With France, the majority of the incarcerated are Arab Muslim men mostly from Algeria, a country that has suffered brutal colonial oppression by France. The war for independence there came at a huge loss of both French and Algerian lives and there is well-documented evidence of the disproportionate prejudice and injustice Algerians face as immigrants in France.

The UK and Canada do not have higher incidents of crime from their respective black populations. That is simply untrue. Over 70% of the incarcerated in the UK are white.

Hen, I don't think this is always true, from my experience growing up very close to the largest "indigenous" black community in Canada, the blacks in Nova Scotia arrived there as freed slaves from the USA after having fought for the British in the American revolution and during the war of 1812. Although they were "free", they faced and continue to face the same issues as blacks in the USA do today. One could argue that they're even worse off as they don't have the same power as blacks do state side. I don't like to post on these touchy threads but I'd thought I'd add my 2 cents if anyone wants to know a more about the black community in my home town of Halifax and some of the similarities they have as blacks the States, here's some videos you may find interesting:

Yeah. I've heard of the black population in Nova Scotia. I saw this documentary on ESPN called "Black Ice," where it's said that those freed slaves from the US created the sport of hockey.

With the crime thing I was thinking about Canada's bigger cities. I know my boy in Vancouver was telling me about how Asian gangs there and the triad groups were responsible for a great deal of crime.

You're both right...Africville is definitely a unique stain on Canada's history, but in a lot of the other cities, it wasn't nearly as bad, and obviously the crime/homicide here is tiny compared to the States.

Obviously other minorities have been oppressed too (i.e. Japanese and Chinese in Western Canada) but you really can't talk about Canadian history without focusing on how bad the Natives got fucked over.

Not that it needs to be a competition, but it's important to recognize that it was to a degree beyond any another groups.

Also for Hencredible, like I pointed out in my reply to Rudebwoy, I agree with a lot of points and facts you guys have been posting, but I'd be careful about some of the historical revisionism that goes on with some black scholars or PC media.

For example, Beethoven wasn't black in the sense that we use that word today.

And freed slaves definitely didn't create hockey:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_hockey#History

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_...rts#Hockey (lots of other sources available on this too)

As a former hockey player, I won't take the time to dismantle this theory myself, but you can't hinge part of a historical opinion on when someone started using a new strategy (i.e. slapshot, even if it was reliably true).

That said, I'm glad that there is more attention coming to what the black players in the NHL and early leagues had to deal with, and it's good to see the game continuing to spread to different countries and people of different backgrounds.

LeBeau - Yeah. Whether Beethoven was black or whether blacks created hockey is quite unimportant to me. I was just mentioning an ESPN documentary that gave light to a story about blacks inventing hockey in Nova Scotia. To be quite honest, those questions are the least of concerns with respect to the challenges facing black people in the US.

Quote:That said, this is the debate. What the role of government, if any, is to address the circumstances of many of African-Americans who have been disadvantaged by this country's legacy

Answer: Not much, then again I am from the mindset that one can choose certain paths regardless who is the President and/or which political party has control of the government. I probably mentioned this back when the election debates were hot and heavy. I am also of the mindset of "nobody owes you anything". Since I am big sports fan, I like to make sports analogies.

Analogy #1: The government is not going to give some "handout to make up for our bad head start". Even IF (by some magical means) the government does give something, it will be a "1st down with the ball at the opponent's 2-yard line" but "1st down at your own 20-yard line and you will have to go the remaining 80 yards."

Analogy #2: Relates to Track & Field and the 100-meter dash. If you have a bad start, that means you have to be better than everyone else in the remaining 80 or 90 yards than the rest. You cannot just "do what they do" and expect to close the gap. You must be better and have less mistakes. Yes, this may lead to not as much social freedom or overall "fun" but that is the card that was dealt to you. Make it work.

There is NOTHING the government can do to decrease our out-of-wedlock births, our consumer spending priorities, our education priorities (government can help with funding but prioritizing education is on us) and our lack of nuclear families. All of that must come from within. On top of that, the points that I mentioned can/should be done regardless who is the President/controlling political party.

And there it is. Listen, you're a black man and I'm a black man and we seem to have similar ways of dealing with those challenges in this country. I'm not looking to the government to do a damn thing for me and the last thing I want from them is a check (unless you're talking about my job as a consultant to them Smile. Otherwise, I'm trying to keep the government as far away from me as possible.

That said, not everyone is in a position to do that. I was fortunate to grow up where I did and get the opportunities I've had, as are you.

With no coherent culture or belief systems and no uniform idea to deal with this history, blacks are just going to go about making it in their own unique ways. Anyone who's spent significant time around upwardly mobile black folks or attended an HBCU or was part of a black fraternity knows that there are many different ways black people view the world. So, ultimately, it's upon others to see us for the individuals we are rather than insult and offend our identities by lumping us into one category. There's enough room in this world for a Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Barack Obama, and many other unique individuals who just happen to be black.

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
First let me say I don't give a fuck what O'Riley or anyone who shares his world views thinks about African Americans. The very fact he decided to only label negative things and hip hop as black culture issues says more about him than any bullshit he could say about African Americans.

The problems that affect the majority of African Americans are poverty, disenfranchisement, and racism. These last few weeks have also shown me that the lack of empathy (and in some cases resentment) for African Americans in this country is likely another one as well.

With that said a debate about race is getting us away from the truth of the matter Guns are getting into the hands of idiots, psychos, a sociopaths more and more. Look at the news today where a guy took some hostages in Florida using the weapons he was licensed to own and killed between 5-6 before he himself was killed by swat.

@ MIKECF
@SAMSEAU.

i will say this: GOD, himself, is a sinner. Yes, GOD IS A SINNER. Point to me one commandment in the Bible that God himself didnt violate or ask others to violate in his name?

I finished reading that "holy book" when i was 13....my memory is foggy...but i am pretty sure i can find passages after passages where God himself violated his own commandments.

@Fisto. i completely agree with you.

While some conservatives and liberals(both black and white) do have the best interests of african americans at heart. Not wanting any assistance/expertise from any other race is retarded.

Japan,China, India etc modernize by seeking assistance from the West and selectively applying it to their countries. Russian bolsheviks did that with the western technocrats. Americans did that with europeans technocrats.

The Romans did that with the Greeks. The Arabs did that with the Greeks.

i think Mark Zuckerberg donated $100 million to schools in newark,nj or something.

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
@URBAN NERD.

I like your mindset. solutions. you must come from a hard science background. we are solution oriented people.

the population of african americans is 42million.

Here is my idea:Take a look at the number of african american with massive networth.

Oprah alone can afford to loose $42 million every year and still remains filthy rich for the rest of her life. that is roughly $1million per 1 every african american in your country. She doesnt have to do that all by herself.....(no, i am not talking about handouts...)

Oprah and other african americans with networth above $10million can create a fund that they donate(whichever amount that they can) to every year. The donation should be in total excess of $50million per year--exceeding the population of african americans in usa. these black multimillionaires and billionaires can afford to do that.

My idea: Create a fund. Let all of them donate whatever they can every year...in excess of $50million per year....including whites or other races billionaires and multimillionaires that want to donate....let them donate into that fund...

the money into that fund should be used for education, dealing with gun violence, grass root organization, drug epidemics, church level organization, etc to deal with problems in african american society. No handouts...Completely bypass the government/agencies, etc...gather communities together, break down the problems specific to each community; use people with expertise from various fields(retired CEOs, students, philanthropists, etc)...systematically attack these problems. organize and mobilize. grassroot.

for the young black men...create mentorship with coterie of successful, adult blackmen willing and able to commit time to mentor young black men. especially, the ones from single families.etc..etc...deal with gangs and ex-prison inmates to re-habilitate them back into society with actual jobs and active mentorship programs. being on their arse every day to keep them straight and narrow. get them some job...use the fund to create jobs for them....create your own jobs...create your own african american Bank of america...etc..create black entrepreneurs funding like they have in germany. etc. the list of what can be done is almost endless...prioritize and attack these problems...let the communities gather themselves together, block by block and have meetings on what needs to be done and implement it without giving a shite about the government. pool their resources...use the money in the fund to fund these things.(i am not talking about getting some stupid new basketball courts.)...creating afterschool class programs...renting buses to pickup children fromtheir homes to attend extra classes after schools...paying the teachers from these funds...buy businesses...buy into businesses...etc..

that is gist of my idea. handouts, waiting for governments, welfare, will not solve these problems. actions need to be taken on the grassroot levels.

do pilot studies...adapt, innovate...learn from mistakes, treat it like a multi-year campaign...a great leap forward or something. recruit volunteers, go all out.

handouts will not work...social welfare will not work...grassroot actions with communities actively engaged is the only solution i can see. take it block by block, if you have to. make it non political. etc.

anyways, that is the gist of my idea.

But you have to include other races and people that are not black.

Blacks who get rich do not want to be around low-class blacks.

HC noted that upwardly mobile blacks moved away from other blacks after Jim Crow. Why is that?

I grew up around poor white trash. My observation is that poor white people are violent, trashy, and prone to criminality. Bikes would get stolen, you might get jumped, etc.

But blacks, for whatever reason (and I honestly don't know) tend to ratchet up that violence.

So while some white kids might jump you, for the most part you're going to get an ass beating that doesn't have any long-term repercussions.

When blacks jump someone, they wolf pack, strip him naked, kick him when he's already unconscious, etc.

Thus when blacks "make it," the first thing they do is get themselves as far away from other black people as possible.

The question should be what kind of treatment all of these slaves suffered, and to think that Black American slaves had it the worst isn't believable.

(By the way, Arabs did have an identity under the Ottoman empire that lasted for hundreds of years.)

The Spartan's slave empire treated slaves like dirt and they were hunted for fun.

Both the Greeks and Romans gave no rights to slaves and they could be killed by the owner for any reason at all.

Muslims took war prisoners and also made slaves of millions over many centuries.

East Asia also had periods of vast slave farms as well. Look up at how the Great Wall of China was built, those laborers weren't called slaves but they were slaves for all intents and purposes.

Virtually all peoples in all continents have been subjected to various forms of oppression, and nearly all of them have suffered the worst kinds of deprivations imaginable, both at the hands of invaders and their own government.

But none have had the unique experience of American-style slavery.

Utterly and completely false, simply repeating yourself at this point. I provided you with many historical examples and you just brush them off without any commentary?

Quote:You still haven't been able to bring up an example where chattel slavery was practiced on people who came from different cultures, ethnic groups, languages, and completely dehumanized and forced to adopt new identities and stripped from their histories.

Yes I did. In fact, virtually all slaves came from difficult cultures and ethic groups.

- Islamic slavery (these guys had PLENTY of white slaves)
- Spartan slavery (kept a group of people in bondage for over 3 centuries, as bad as the African Americans had it)
- Roman slavery (these dudes conquered 3 continents)
- Greek slavery (they had a word for outsiders... "barbarians" - this included blacks)

I have no idea what you're talking about by insisting on the "uniqueness" of the black experience, when in fact everything I've read tells me that slavery is hardly a unique experience and that most of human history has been one story of brutal oppression after the next.

Quote:Also, to point out the obvious, you are not a black person in America.

Speaking of ad-hominem - what does this have to do with anything?

Quote:What credibility do you even have to talk about the effects that slavery and Jim Crow has on a black person and to compare those experiences against others?

I have the same credibility as anyone else who hasn't descended from an African American slave, which includes yourself since you said your family wasn't originally from America.

Quote: You don't "feel" the black experience. Someone in your shoes should show a bit of restraint instead of overreaching into areas you are literally ignorant about. You sound ridiculous. You have yet to formulate a cogent argument to challenge the points made by Tim Wise, a man who has studied the issue of race in this country and has come to many of the same conclusions I have.

Tim Wise is a sophist like Mark Minter who feeds you the bullshit you want to hear. You WANT to believe there is a grand conspiracy keeping the black man down. You WANT to believe things are outside of your control. You WANT to believe that whites are these simple sheep who could never understands the complexities of the black man.

I am being emotional right now - it's called the emotion of laughter. I am laughing hard right now. White guys like Tim Wise play Black men all day long. It's hilarious to see suckers falling for it for nearly 50 years strong.

Nothing Tim Wise says is original or unique. His arguments mostly come from other black thinkers like this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frantz_Fanon

If these guys were correct about White injustice keeping the black man down, it would be really easy to fix. Instead no matter how much affirmative action or welfare is given to blacks, their situation just gets worse every year. Do you think it's time to be a little introspective and critical of past policies yet, or will you remain dogmatic?

Quote:Rather than show any evidence that you possess arguments to rebut his claim, you've incessantly brought up his address.

Because he is a hypocrite, and invalidates his own moral arguments with his life choices. He is FULL of shit, he is a sophist, and you are being played for a sucker for buying into it.

Quote:In fact, you come across as an angry white conservative which, sorry to tell you, is a dying breed in the US that is increasingly being marginalized (for good reason). Using emotion to argue this topic while absent of coherent facts does not appeal to logic.

Angry white conservatives are the LEAST of the black man's problems. White conservatives are probably the last bastion of constitutional sanity in America - when these guys die out, or finally become marginalized enough due to depopulation, blacks are going to have it much harder. By this point, it will mean that white population base has eroded to the point where blacks will be forced to support themselves. I expect extreme poverty and several decades of bloodbath.

Quote:You talk about the transatlantic slave trade as if it's a cakewalk. I doubt you would have even survived the Middle Passage, yet you suggest those who did are weak. Quite the contrary.

If they were strong in the first place, they would not have been on the middle passage.

That said, I do not blame those who are enslaved. I do not believe you can magically become weak or strong through will alone. Fate and chance determine most of our lives.

Quote:Also, looking at this issue clearly along political lines is silly on your part. Race trumps political affiliation. Republican/Democrat, it doesn't matter. None of those parties are going to make the problems facing blacks in this country a front and center issue. Republicans have made no serious effort to reach out to black voters or minorities in general.

Republicans have tried over and over again, but the Republican message is not one Blacks want to hear. Republicans want to cut welfare. I wonder why Republicans are not popular with Blacks?

Moreover, the fact that Blacks will vote along race and not along political affiliation is why the Blacks are in such dire straits - they just follow the same political leaders who fleece them blind, decade after decade.

Note I do not only blame the Blacks for this behavior - whites voted for Ted Kennedy nonstop even though that guy was a major piece of shit on every level. The behavior I am criticizing transcends race, and it involves most people who cannot see the big picture of economics, family formation, and politics.

Voting for some guy because he promises $$$$ to your chosen affiliation is obviously bad for the people of a country as a whole, and Blacks should start thinking less about their race and more about the country which has supports and nourishes them.

That said, I don't think Blacks, or the Left, will ever think clearly about issues of welfare or racial entitlement, and since the Left is on the winning side it guarantees America is going to die a painful, poverty stricken Detroit-like death.

Samseau - All you've done by continuing to post on this thread is reveal the extent of your factual bankruptcy. None of the historical examples of slavery you've mentioned mimic the type that was practiced in the US -wherein slaves were completely cutoff from knowledge of their history/culture/family. Most of the guys on this board appear to get that because it's established fact. The onus is on you to disprove that but the scholarship that's out there on American slavery makes my point quite clear.

The depths of your psychosis is pretty telling when you think that, as a white man, you have as much credibility as a black man (me) when discussing the experience of being black in this country.

Again, you lack cogent arguments and have resorted to mere trolling by this point. I do not think your personal beliefs serve to enlighten anyone on the facts of the history of race in the US. If anything, they reflect just how off the deep end you really are.

You're the same guy who included on your list of reasons for choosing to live in your ideal time period in history the ability to execute your wife unpunished and the owning of slaves.

/thread-25335-...#pid481357

I know you've written a post in ROK in the past on having suffered from severe depression. Judging from what I've read from you on this thread, I am not surprised in the least to be quite honest with you.

I also think you live in or are from Boston, a place known to be a notoriously racist city within the black community.

By this point, I have nothing more to add with respect to addressing you. I've already made my points and have received praise for them both on this thread and privately through PM.

No one following this thread has any more to gain by seeing me continue to address your ignorant musings.

In the illustrious words of Jay-Z, "A wise man told me don't argue with fools. Cause people from a distance can't tell who is who."

Done.

It's everyone's fault.

Honestly if Trayvon wasn't consuming products with high fructose corn syrup he'd be good right now. It's because he was on high fructose corn syrup.

Question to the black guys who agree with Bill O'Reilly.

Where did you go grow up?

What was your family dynamic?

As a white guy who grew up next to a public housing projects and have had life long friends die and get arrested and sell drugs I feel like I have a real inside looking out view.

That guy in the video reminds me of Denzel washingtons character in training day.

Some of his points were on point but some were just silly.

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
Quote:None of the historical examples of slavery you've mentioned mimic the type that was practiced in the US -wherein slaves were completely cutoff from knowledge of their history/culture/family.

I've already stated it, but I'll do it again because your denial is amusing:

- Islamic slavery
- Roman slavery
- Greek slavery

All took war slaves, on the regular, from HUGE swaths of land between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, no slaves were given rights and few had families.

Do you need me to post the Wikipedia articles for you? Other than that you're simply shutting your mind off to the facts because it does not fit your pre-conceived notions you were taught in college.

Quote:The depths are your psychosis are pretty telling when you think that, as a white man, you have more credibility than a black man (me) when discussing the experience of being black in this country.

Again, you lack cogent arguments and have resorted to mere trolling by this point. I do not think your personal beliefs serve to enlighten anyone on the facts of the history of race in the US. If anything, they reflect just how off the deep end you really are.

You're the same guy who included on your list of reasons for choosing to live in your ideal time period in history the ability to execute a woman and the owning of slaves.

Wow, could you get ANY more ad-hominem? You were just defending Tim Wise from me on the basis of me being ad-hominem, and yet here you are. Total hypocrisy.

Nothing you say is relevant to the discussion at hand, because we're talking about historical truths and political policies. No where did I advocate any specific moral stance, except in that one reply I made to MikeCF a few pages ago.

I must say I impressed with how much you follow my words though - I'll never understand why you get so uptight over this.

In my mind, this discussion isn't even a little serious. I'm shooting the shit about race. I know it's hard to do that with Blacks because they assume since I'm White I can't know anything about Black people, but I try regardless because I know that prejudice can only be overcome if someone has the balls to speak.

The ONLY reason blacks even give a shit about white discrimination is because whites have most of the money. I would bet my soul that if Blacks were rich and Whites were poor, Blacks would never care about being accepted by Whites and Whites would complain endlessly about Black discrimination.

Quote:By this point, I have nothing more to add with respect to addressing you.

Done.

Nice flounce. Do you always get your panties in a bunch when people disagree with you?

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
I will admit that I grew up in the suburbs of a big city and is a product of a two-parent household. My father was a shipping manager for many years before retiring and my mother worked from home and was a freelance accountant. Of course my mother stressed education since she started college at age 16. My father was ex-military so he instilled the discipline. BOTH of them stressed always being practical and staying on "straight and narrow" and there is a time and place for everything.

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
Question for the black guys: To what extent do you think the issues facing the black community stem from liberal policies?

Or do you think liberal policies help more than hurt?

Or do you think they are pretty much a non-factor and that the history of slavery and other factors (please elaborate if you would) are the big driving factors?

The liberal policies (welfare and other handouts) had the right "heart", but in retrospect, ended up hurting the black community. Of course the policymakers back then could not forsee what effect those policies would have on the black community. As one writer said about this issue..."we have lost 2 generations due to these liberal policies".

Well, I knew you were going to feel that way, and if you read my posts, you know that I agree.

RE: Bill O'Reilly talks about black america
I've often wondered if those liberal policies were intentional. You make people dependent on the scraps they dole out and you have built in votes. You keep them poor and having poor kids and your voter base grows. You keep them thinking they're entitled and victims who don't have another choice. As O'Rielly pointed out, how many commercials has anyone seen telling young black women to avoid getting pregnant?

That keeping people poor practice goes back to Roman times.

Even guys like HC, who are clearly smart, are stuck on past grievances and seem to largely be interested in historical reasons that black people haven't made it as a whole rather than solving the present situations plaguing their community.

Right now, there is no better place in the world than the U.S. for black people to thrive and be prosperous but all you hear is that racism is keeping the black man down.

You want racism?

Go anywhere else and see how that works out.

I think that question has already been addressed pretty substantially in this thread, which has already passed its apex. Ultimately, the best way to understand issues in the black community - if you're really concerned - is to spend time in them and get to know real people. Otherwise, all you're doing is being a keyboard jockey and feigning interest in an area that you are truly ignorant about. There's nothing heroic about supposedly speaking your mind in an anonymous online forum. Hit up a black barbershop in a black neighborhood and see if those same convictions you claim to have come out. Go to the campuses of Howard University or Morehouse College and talk to the students you find there about your "beliefs." Good luck.

HC, have you ever heard of Eatonton GA? I grew up there as a kid. I was the nigga there.

Guy I'm going to stay with in Spain is a black dude and one of my best friends.

I was on a wrestling team with about 60% black dudes for 4 years.

Although I do agree that it's laughable when white kids who never had a close black friend or black roommate have opinions, consider what you're implying.

Are you saying that black men are unable to have a civil discussion about race with white people?

If that's what you're suggesting, then it's not racism for white to to say, "Fuck the black community. If we can't have a fair, civil conversation without them getting offended and getting in my face, why should I care what happens to them?"

Like I said, my personal experience living and hanging with blacks is that it's nonsense to claim that society isn't racist or that cops aren't racist.

But also seeing black guys get all fucking offended and start wolf packing someone who disagrees with them does the cause no favor and only validates racism.

Indeed, I've heard more than one person say, "I was never racist until I actually lived around black people."

Blacks do more to advance racism than they do to prevent it.

What if black guys could have a civil discussion with whites without getting angry and self-righteous. Wouldn't that be a more effective strategy than to make white people too afraid to even have the conversation?

Actually, the questions I just asked were not answered by the black guys (at least the guys I know are black) with the exception of UrbanNerd. Hence the reason I asked.
