Girls and the word "Awkward"
I live in a college town and I hear the word "awkward" being used all the fucking time with the early 20s college crowd. I don't recall "awkward" being as ubiquitous 5-10 years ago.

Read the online dating profile of any girl 18-24. Do a CTRL +F for "awkward".

Is this a reflection of generation of girls who've grown up interacting with a virtual screen (Facebook, texting) rather than interacting face-to-face?

Agree that there's been an explosion in its use. Just more virulently copy-cat behavior and speech from girls.

RE: Girls and the word "Awkward"
I don't think it is a reflection of online interaction.

I tihnk it is a reflection of betafying society. 'Awkward' is what girls use when someone says something or does something incongruent/low status, and we've got a hell of a lot of low status boys and girls now girls are trying to be boys, and boys girls.

RE: Girls and the word "Awkward"
Certain words seem to take hold in the culture and spread. Take "whatever" for instance. I don't think it has anything to do with online/social networking.

"Epic" is one that makes me want to run over the bitch saying it.

Sometime ago it was "prerogative", "holla", "duh" etc. People are sheep.

How about these coming from girls' mouths:

"like a boss"
"swag" [as in swagger]
"baller" [in reference to themselves]
"pimp" [as an adjective, as in "isn't this pimp?"]

Pretty much any words that girls use to try and sound hip or cool.

Bitches need to stop saying "it sucks to suck"

They can go suck to suck a dick.

RE: Girls and the word "Awkward"
I hate when girls say "bro" or "dude". Recently had a girl I went to high school with who stopped by here in Thailand. Anytime she would talk to a Thai person she would say shit like "Oh yeah, no worries. That's cool dude. For sure." I wanted to smack her in the head and scream "THEY DON'T FUCKING UNDERSTAND YOU!".

This 19 year old Thai girl I fuck likes to put on my Giants hat sideways and put her hands up and go "Yo! Yo! Yo!" when we are at my apartment. I want to punch her in the fucking face every time she does it. It literally makes me cringe. I think she does it just to piss me off. I'm going to boot her right in the cooch the next time she does it, if I even let her come back over anymore.

^"no worries" is one of my biggest pet peeves in the universe. It sounds retarded to me.

Creep is the one that bothers me. Any behavior from a guy that a chick doesn't like... is creepy. He's a creep. But let her panties get moist for a dude and that same behavior is cool.

The other thing to remember is that this is the generation that grew up with helicopter parenting. They've had their whole lives scheduled and managed. For a lot of these kids actual unchaperoned social interaction is awkward.

RE: Girls and the word "Awkward"
Something to add...it's one of those words that sometimes gets modified into an intentionally higher-pitch when said, for extra annoyance.

"OMG...Awkward"...about 15 octaves higher.

Some women do this (even into their 30s), and some ultra-flamboyant gay men do as well.

You can add that to the list, along with 'Sorry, but not sorry.'

recently i spent a night with a girl who used the word 'yolo' in addition to the list above... sheep-minded girls makes an easy lay, but painfully annoying.

life is a waking dream.

YOLO = You Only Live Once.

As in, "ONG Should I get shitfaced tonight?"

"Yeah grrlfriend, YOLO right!?!?"

Basically justification for any stupid thing they may do. Used as a get out of jail free card for dumb decisions.

.............

What really pisses me off, besides "Epic" is " FAIL!!!"

Been hearing both of those a lot lately.

I feel like slapping anyone who says this - I mean both those words died out around 2007, why do they need to come back.

It's funny - a lot of these cliches come from nerd culture.

I remember seeing "EPIC" and "FAIL!!" on forums like something awful when I was 18! Now hot girls spam this shit around like it's funny or something, and yet geeks used to get shit on just for saying it.
