This is a mean-spirited, petty thing to do and I'm tired of seeing it in the mansosphere.

Scalzi and his wife are about 50-years-old now. They've been married since 1995 and have a daughter who is probably in her teens.

While his wife might not look like a model in middle age (who does?), she was, in fact, pretty hot in pictures from back when they met. By posting the above link, you're publicly giving shit to a middle-aged mom for looking like a middle-aged mom. Is this what we want to be doing on this forum?

She didn't choose to be a public figure. Dragging her into this is like the people who bust on the president's kids.

On top of all that, she's several inches taller than him. It's not easy to pull off marrying a tall, good-looking woman when you're a short(ish), nerdy newspaper writer -- as Scalzi was circa 1995. Most women do not date shorter. Most women don't marry men with newspaper salaries. It takes a lot of Alpha to flip both those scripts.

So, Scalzi has a successful career, a wife who was hot when he married her (and has stayed with him for a quarter century), and a daughter who seems to be doing well. This seems like something we'd want to emulate, not criticize.

For the record, I'm am no fan of Scalzi's -- or most any lamestream writer. But I can disagree with someone's ideas and still give props to them for living a decent life.

I you have a problem with Scalzi, pick apart his politics and his work, not members of the family he managed to forge against the odds in modern-day America.

You will notice I submitted the picture without comment. I mostly think it's funny because of the size differential between them, but people are allowed to draw their own conclusions. I don't personally find her attractive, though, and I also don't think it's foul play to comment on the attractiveness of the wives or girlfriends of public figures. We do that all the time here and for the record so do they. Don't forget how their side treated (and still treats) Melania Trump. You're right that I am a mean-spirited asshole, but on the practice of posting a publicly available picture and having a chuckle, there are entire threads on that here for better or worse and there have been pretty much since the beginning. It is far, far different sharing a pic here for the LOLs than going attack dog mode on someone and harassing them, their spouse, and their kids. I am against that too. But I will point out, the left does that all the damned time.

Whether or not we should occasionally post pictures of soy-guzzling GloboHomo slobs and their Amazonian spouses is up to the mods. If the Gods of RVF say "no more," then so be it.

Otherwise, agree to disagree. I don't think we have a moral obligation to show mercy and be kind to enemies who would not do the same to us. Just the fact you post here means a guy like Scalzi would not hesitate to destroy your life and career if you were even tangentially related to his field and somehow got doxed. That is how men like Scalzi operate. There have been plenty of chances for the left, especially in SF&F publication/fandom to pump the breaks and show they can be civil to their political opposites, yet they never do - they always choose to double down and drive a deeper wedge. Are we obligated to try to remove it or slow it down? I say no.

Of course all of this is only my opinion, and I don't expect anyone else to share it. But the SJW rot in SF&F, in book publishing, and in the entertainment industry at large is one I take personally, because I have to. I don't work in book publishing, but I have tangled with people like this asshole my whole career, who would absolutely wipe you off the slate for speaking even one minor, tiny instance of WrongThink. I've survived scrapes with guys like this in HR or in discussion groups or work chats or wherever by the hair of my asscrack, more than once, and I know personally just how ruthless they can be, whether one's intent is to say or something offensive or if it is totally innocent.

They don't care. So... fuck them. Fight fire with fire. You don't have to. That's fine. But if I see a picture of Mr. Leaping Gavel of the Internet himself being dwarfed by his wife with a look on his face like he just ate her bloody tampon and liked it, bet your ass I'm going to laugh.

That aside, your post touches on something else quite interesting to me, and relevant to this forum, which is the idea of Scalzi having game. This is endlessly amusing to me, not because I think you're wrong, but because you are absolutely 100% probably right. It is a kind of game we often mock here but it should be noted that it exists and can be effective even for weak sacks of male feminist shit like the author in question.

Scalzi is the guy who has made the soy face in almost every photograph he has ever appeared in. His appearance is, by any measure, that of a hairy beanbag chair. Physically atrophied. Sedentary. Proudly dishonorable. Probably useless in war (although you never know who might be a decent shot). All in all, his public persona at least is Bonobo Society Patient Zero. But I am not a game denialist, and if he has an angle, he has one. There are women - god bless them - who are willing to sleep with this type of men. Some even prefer them because of how non-threatening they are.

Scalzi reminds me of a roommate I had in college who was the same sort of doughy, effete hipster asshole who would talk all kinds of shit behind a keyboard, but would shrink and slink away like Gollum the second someone stepped to his face in real life. I once overheard this guy trash-talking my Iron Maiden records to some scene girl he brought back to the bedroom we shared. It was a sleazy, underhanded thing to do to someone he claimed to be friends with, but... such is the mating dance.

The only answer I could ever come up with was that hipster signaling is attractive to a small subset of women who can't tell the difference. It's a shitty facsimile of masculinity to pretend to be tough on pop culture, be it books or Netflix series or foreign films or politics or whatever, but for many women out there, that shitty facsimile is enough. These women will open their legs and let those slimy two or three pumps occur, allowing the hipster douche to reach his biological goal for the evening. Hell, maybe she will even get a super woke mixtape out of it the following morning. She feels safe knowing her partner will never hurt her or a fly, until that moment when a larger male specimen catcalls her in front of his face while they are walking past, or she sees him getting worked up about an argument he had on Facebook with someone whose opinions were just *wrong*, or it comes time for him to engage in any type of physical activity that doesn't involve sitting. Then, those lingering doubts will surface from the nether-regions of her mind and she may question him. But as long as he remains a good male feminist, she will still give him his treats those two or three times a year he manages to achieve an erection.

Normally I sympathise with authors who get their books banned for no reason (like Roosh, that was hugely unfair) but this is actually understandable for Amazon to do: Vox published a book that looks identical to Scalzi's in both title and cover, and probably content too.

However, that still doesn't change the other fact, which is that he's an unaccomplished basement dwelling nerd beyond publishing things and unwilling or unable to go beyond this much. While it's a bit unfair to judge him given his publishing success, to elevate him in being some sort of manosphere pillar is not even meaningful or even remotely useful. There are many people I named above that should be elevated from this standpoint but are not.

Going into the future however it will really be quite meaningless. Stalin famously asked, "The Pope! How many divisions has he got?". This is going to be the metric moving forward. If Amazon and every globalist-owned business decided to unperson Vox tomorrow down from his books down to his blog then he would immediately cease to be relevant. The next day his many intellectual keyboard-pecking followers scattered across the world would not save him from being beaten to death by a small ANTIFA mob.

Vox derides the worth of civic nationalism going forward and he's right to see it as an impotent force against what we're all facing, but like most people even he doesn't seem to grasp the full ramifications of what that means.

I really don't understand the purpose behind these John Scalzi parody books. Presumably you'd actually have to read the parodied Scalzi book beforehand to appreciate most of the humor contained in the parody version. So by creating this type of parody you're actually just increasing demand for Scalzi's books. Not to mention the sheer effort and time commitment required to produce all that text. I mean, really, who cares? I can't imagine these parodies are even selling more than a few hundred copies. Who actually wants to read one? I can't imagine a bigger waste of time.
