Why do peeps copy an entire post just to reply to it??? Dude 1 writes a 5000 word data sheet on South Sudan. Dude 2 copies the entire post by replying to it just so he can say, "+1, great data sheet." 147 other dudes have to see the post twice on their phones reading the threads.

My dudes, let's stop doing this, and only reply to posts only if absolutely necessary for clarity.

True, quoting large posts is just way annoying, use quick reply or something.

I agree Eldon. Also, whoever gives rep points must be specific on the reason like that dude who gave you one.

Agreed. If there is something specific in a post you can copy and paste, otherwise it is a burden to keep scrolling to read a post becaue everyone is copying the entire string.

This quoting is very annoying when people post pictures, sometimes you see the same pictures 5 times. Lets try to cut that back a bit.

This rep thing is also weird. Some guys get 5 or 6 or sometimes up to 10 rep points for one datasheet and some guys get nothing. I have busted out some sheets after working on them for quite a while and get one lousy point for it while others get lots of reps points for something less informative. i guess its location dependent.

Then there are guys who give themselves rep points through double accounts but i cant really prove it yet.

I feel like the reputation system has turned into a bit of a popularity contest but it at least slightly correlates to a person's contributions. If you see rep abuse then contact me.

Roosh I know I've seen an option to control thread pyrmaiding in other forums, is there a feature liked that buried somewhere in the options for this forum?

Roosh,

Can you upgrade the search feature?

I would like to search for key words WITHIN a particular thread. Right now we can only use the search feature to search the whole forum. Sometimes it will find the key word but the thread has 15+ pages.

This may prevent dupe threads. Just a suggestion.

This is a pretty good example of where I think it's appropriate to quote a reply. I'm not really stressing my online rep but am curious why you're trying to call me out..Do you think I deserve a -1?

RE: Forum Improvement
There's never a reason to quote an entire opening post. It's already assumed that you're responding to the OP. Even for responding to succeeding posts, you can just say the other guy's name, and then write your response. Having to type the other guy's name also makes it a little more collegial. It's okay to quote a specific excerpt, so that people know to which passage you're referring. As for photos, you can just say 'Eldon's photo' or the like.

It'd be good if you could set it so that when people hit reply to the first post, the first post is not automatically quoted. And maybe that photos, or photos above a certain size, cannot be quoted.

And this is an example of how meanings get lost on the internet if we're not talking face to face, so I apologize. My comment wasn't a knock on you. I was clicking on your info, thought about your thread, thought it was appropriate, then made a comment about the type of rep points that were sometimes given. I think it'll increase the quality of content of this forum if people know what kind of posts deserve rep points.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the rep point thing.

I mean think about it, they are not redeemable for cash or anything, right?

I've also noticed despite how lax some of the point are, none of the guys with more then 25 rep points dont deserve them.

RE: Forum Improvement
Neil -

Another thing on rep points:

Lately if you drop a Data Sheet, you can get 10 rep points from different people, because there are way more members and rep points seem more popular now.

When I first joined the forum, I think I had 1000 posts on here and maybe 5 rep points. I was the leader for a while.

Then Mixx came on board and it's a different story.

Hell, I didn't even know what a rep point was for my first 1000 posts or so. No one used them.

So bottom line, if you dropped some dope info 2 years ago on here, you were lucky to get a rep point.

Now, you can drop a half *ssed sheet and get 5.

A good one can get you 20.

It's just the way it is.

Again, they are not redeemable for Cash, so who really cares?

Update:

I just checked. My first year on the forum, I had 6 rep points!

I was dropping dimes, 3-5 times per day. Day in, day out.

Hell, the forum lingo is more or less all stuff I say.

I have probably spawned 30 Suit threads alone.

I probably helped 200 people at least with questions where I gave them perfect answers that first year. 6 rep points.

Again, now someone can drop one sheet and have 20.

Rep points should be redeemable for cash or vip tickets to exclusive events!! No bullshit!

At the very least, any member with 50 or higher rep points should get AUTOMATIC free copies of any of Roosh's books/guides etc.

Don't worry, G, I'mma get you up there (points wise). I think your information is more US specific so I'm gonna try out your custom suit shyt once I hit stateside. Plus I don't go to strip joints but I'll try those out and I'll blast you with points.

When I get my cakeup, I'll re-read your shyt on how to floss with big dollaz.

I've been fcuking with your coconut oil theory and that is mint. I wanted to give you three points for the three accomplishments Coconut oil gave. One, for a great natural lube for lizard stroking. Two, for making my skin feel unbelievable (lizards touch me and they get all quivery). Three, for actually keeping my mind right.

Also, ACV is a heaven send. Fcuk a coffee, sip two shots of ACV and I'm a monster outside.

Wow...

As far as forum improvements go, is there a way to show a posters location? Not just country as obviously some countries are rather large.

Optional of course, possibly showing state only, but it would likely help some guys get together if they are nearby. Put it right where the rep used to show. Big Grin

What about a sub-forum in Travel (or Everything Else) for "Networking" Not so much just meeting up, as in getting some drinks and sharing stories, which is more transient in my opinion, but for say, looking for a roommate (if you're in the same city) or even business partners (I.E. El Mechanico's timeshare idea)

RE: Forum Improvement
Would having a RVF Threads/Posts Hall of Fame thread be a good idea? It could partly solve the "problem" of not being able to easily access people's best contributions since the rep system was disabled.

Sure, some good threads/posts would be left out but at least there would be one place where you could have a high concentration of good threads and posts from the past.

Maybe throw in a rule that you can't include your own threads or posts?

I'd like to see the main forum links in a little larger font so you can click them easier from smartphones. User CP, View new posts, view today's posts. Maybe list them on the left? Turn them into big clickable buttons?
