I think Erdogan's son or others close to him could be connected with this, if not Erdogan himself through proxies. Russia humiliated the West by checkmating their schemes in Syria, and this looks like some pathetic attempt at retribution. Could be many things, but we know there are elements within the US and NATO administrations with a desire to hurt Russia and provoke it into some sort of action.

Russians know they're being poked and do not want to be seen as throwing their weight around to counter-attack. The problem with this is it can make Putin look weak and incapable, which is completely opposite of what will happen once the FSB and others get going.

Murdering a Russian diplomat in cold blood on TV in a NATO country who shot down a jet? Somebody wants to get checked badly. I only worry we are seeing a global push to make Russia into a pariah state through their actions and make Trump look even worse by negotiating with them.

Interesting comparison but this is no Sarajevo moment. Likely Putin will arm twist Erdogan into allowing Moscow to turn his proxies in Idlib into dust.
