Like I said before it's malate on an island.

Ugh, I thought I would try Cebu seeing as it's big enough to rack up a lot of numbers but small enough not to get lost, and close to some fine islands, beaches etc. Another big positive (or so I thought) would be a lower concentration of old white sex tourists throwing money around. I thought those types just went to Angeles.

I know January is a no-go because Sinulog... so other than that, what are months where the tourist count in Cebu is at the lowest?

If it's really that bad in Cebu City, well, I'd look more into Davao but in truth would like to avoid Mindanao as a whole.

I would never dissuade someone from trying a place out though.

Sometimes people get the luck of the draw and things work out much better than average.

Only reason I go there at all is because it's a convenient city to base out of and fly in/out of for scuba. The visayas has become a regular destination for me for this reason alone.

Something different - maybe someone has a clue:

If someone here is a bit into things like onlinepoker, I wonder what you think about Du30s long-term goal to basically stop onlinegambling in the Philippines.
Do you think that finally he will only go after egaming-/gambling-sites which are based in the Philippines (PAGOR) or at the end also potentially after companies which are not located in the Philippines and for the very most part are targeting foreign customers?
It is not a big thing for me personally because my active time regards to onlinepoker is already over and I have retired 2 years ago, but I know some dudes who are still heavily involved into this and I do wonder if they will be negatively affected or not?

That is a more specific topic and chances are high that actually finally here no one has a clue, but I have just figured that I give it a try and maybe in fact anyone has here some insights.

ah and in order to also bring something to the ''cebu-topic":
It is not only in Cebu that the quality for women (solid quality) and also for easy notches has decreased over the years and will further.
The same is true for other places in the Phils (for some more than for others), for other countries in SEA and also for other countries which also have been known to have easy and feminine women (for instance, South America).
The reason behind is lying in 2 aspects:

1.) All the mentioned countries do experience more and more western influence due to their social conditioning and we all know what this has led to and how horrible the average quality of women in western countries is.

2.) More and more foreigners combined with a huge increase in social media, uncountable dating-sites and dating apps - all that have lead to a big decreasement in the sexual market value of each and every single foreign dude (individualistic spoken).

Still, at least for now all the mentioned countries are still out best bet.

Guys, how was the situation become for foreigners under the new president has far? Has the way we are perceived changed?

I think he just wants to prevent Filipinos from gambling. The two main companies operating the egaming parlors across the country are/were making a killing. I remember seeing PhilWeb Corp making a $70,000 USD profit at each location per year and they operate nearly 300 locations. Duterte feels (and probably rightly so) that the egaming has a negative effect on Filipinos. Many get addicted, many commit crimes to get gaming money, many neglect their kids and use the money to gamble, etc..

Thanks for your view on this - I personally would think that your assessment is correct and there should be no real motivation to go after companies which are overseas located and do not target or cater to a filipino citizens as customers - at least, I hope that he does understand the difference here and would understand that there would be no point there.
Of course, referring to all your points why it makes sense to go after gambling-companies which filipino citizens are using, I could not agree more with all your stated reasons and I do think that it has a negative impact on Filipinos - I just hope that he is not like aa total ''black or white''-guy when it comes to this topic by thinking (without any proper knowledge behind) that Gambling is ALWAYS ''bad'' and a big big ''danger'', but that he can make here correct differences.

Anyways, thanks for your view on this matter - I guess we will see at the end what will happen.

How should I go about bribing a condo security guard?

Goal is to get waved in with whatever company I have, no questions asked.
That's already nearly certain in the short term, but after a long enough parade of girls, he might not be so sweet.

I don't just tip the guard, I tip everyone, maids, porters. And I do it every time they do something extra for me. Life is brutally poor for the working class in the Philippines, who are looked upon by the upper classes as only partially human. There's little of the egalitarianism of USA here.

By the fact you're cavorting in a foreign country with self-evident money and time, you are upper class here.

"There is no success without being hated."

See Tom Cruise, Trump, Obama. Zuckerberg.... anyone.

Your best case scenario is you will be hated, but it will not be overt and they will not actively undermine you.

Then the optional "beta" step is to feel compassion for those who have it ten times worse than you, and be understanding about their resentment.

Be like the little baby Jesus!!

What's your usual tip size?

@ anyone
Is it possible to shave a couple of thousand off a mid/lower mid range condo's rent? I have no feel for the value of money in a place like this

Well, you can base your calc's on the salary range of hotel workers.

The lowest paid/worst English are the guards, who make a less than a dollar an hour-- maybe as little as 240 for a 12 hour day which is below the legal minimum wage.

So a dollar, or 45p, is a significant bump. For something that just takes a few minutes like carrying a heavy bottle of water up to my apartment, I just pay them about 20. If maids are cleaning my apartment for 40 minutes I give them a dollar each.

Nice apartments can be had for 8000 per month if you get out to Consolacion. If you want to be within walking distance of bars, you pay of course standard tourist rates.

To me for long term living here I had to have a motorcycle, but I don't recommend it for most. Taxis can add up to $10 per day easily and traffic can take forever. If you're just here a short time it's different and you need to have experience with a bike to be even slightly safe.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a private driver (not taxi driver) that probably made less than 50 pesos an hour. He wasn't my driver but the kuya of one of my girls so he wasn't begging for a tip. He told me about one time having to drive to the airport one of the worst clients he ever had. The person was yelling at him, treating him like shit, and just being an asshole. I said, "well that sounds terrible." He said, "no, it was great, he gave me a 250 peso tip!"

Fucking 250 pesos (about $5 USD) made a shitty situation a good day for him.

You're in Manila right? What are the benefits of having a car there?

When I was in Davao I saw foriegner's driving SUV's and Pickup trucks but it made sense to me because they were probably living in the hills above and they would need a vehicle to get into town, haul their scuba gear, etc.

Maybe you get value out of it because you can easily take girls out of the city to the countryside or beach?

I don't know, but I'm curious about it and interested in knowing more.

@Aero, if you knew how much I make online, you'd understand that I am doing the hustling.
@Onto, the benefits of having a car in the Philippines:
*girls give you way less resistance and take you more seriously because you're not climbing into a trike/jeepney like a peasant (car = status, here)
*not having to sit crammed next to 20 different people
*I don't enjoy 100+ degree heat. Maybe you do? Tongue
*as long as you have tinted windows and live in a gated community, you can avoid the the walk of shame all day

What's wrong is using Uber and taxis in Manila instead of having a car, though? It's cheap except during rush hour, but if you don't have to commute to work, you can avoid the rush hour. I'd rather spend extra money on a good apartment right in the middle of the Fort or Makati where you don't even need a car.
ivansirko 路 2016-08-11 22:59:00 路 #3817
A car in Manila? Either sits in a parking lot or sits in traffic. Totally unnecessary. If you lived in the Province then a car would be good.

I can understand spending 40k php on a nice condo in the best areas of Manila, but 80k monthly on food? If my math is still good, thats about $2,000 usd... just for food?

Totally unnecessary.

Rich people's problems. I've never spent that much money on food (including drinks and going out) even in the most expensive cities in the world.

1713 dollars precisely. Unless you are in Tahiti or a faraway island like Iceland thats just throwing money away.

To add: I have to support a family of 4. We spend half that on groceries a month. If this is by yourself, erikak, what are you eating? Caviar and Chilean Sea Bass?

Ah, shit. Sorry if I came off as trying to brag. It wasn't my intention, and I know how annoying that shit is. I'm an idiot.

edit: I live to the south of Manila, where there are no taxis/uber. But even if I lived in Manila, I think I'd still go with a car. It makes sense economically to me, if you're living here for a long time. You can buy a decent used one for $7,000 and sell it for that much later. Plus the taxis are kinda expensive.

(I don't live in Manila because housing is relatively cheaper here (you can rent a mansion with a pool for 40-50k/month, as opposed to a 100m condo for 30k in Manila/Makati/Alabang) and there are way less foreigners/competition here. I've never seen a decent condo go for 8k outside of like the provinces or something, but maybe I just suck at searching.)

If you're living in an area where there is no Uber or Taxis then a car is a necessity.

However, I wouldn't poo-poo the jeepneys altogether. I rode them everyday in Davao and it provided a lot of opportunity to meet normal girls.

On another subject, has anyone (especially from the US) been able to bring and use a Starbucks Gold card they already had (loaded with money) and use it in the Philippines?
