I would say Singapore since you would be LIVING and WORKING. 1 SGD to 3 Ringgit, I would rather you head to KL for vacation and get your money's worth partying, its only a short 1 hour flight and USD80. KL is alot alot cheaper but not as safe, clean and alot more corrupted, good luck driving around during festive seasons and not get summons as 'duit kopi' (coffee money) for the traffic police. Since you're going to be in two boring cities, you might as well choose the one that you wouldn't be bored AND robbed. Also, Singapore would be a good place to meet real rollers with potential personal development and investment opportunities for you since you're in one of the busiest international trading cities in the world.

KL would be great for shopping international brands(due to the weakening Ringgit) , picking girls from provinces and cheap food, everything that sounds like a vacation city.

Problem is that he's on the same salary for both cities.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Malays being taken up or abit less safe. If you are working there you will most likely be in an expat neibouhood with a good pad set up. Using uber etc. chances of you getting robbed or stuff like that are significantly lower in Asia than South America.
Hot girls will be there in either city if you go out and about. And it's not like you are looking only for a 9 to wife up, girls come and go all the time.

What does matter is what your future plans are, there are probably more networking opportunities in SG and you are able to meet more people from different industries but in KL you might as well meet people in your industry which is more relevant and to the point. KL is still a big city in sea and it's not like you are going to a small town in Sumatra.

My salary is the same no matter which city I am in so money wise KL makes more sense as my money will go a lot further there compared to SG.

SG would be better for general networking however no real difference between the two as far as specifically related to my industry as I'm not in anything finance related.

Bear in mind that for the money you saved in KL you could be saving up for a deposit for a property back in Australia or start investing in other stuff. This could prove beneficial if you do end up in Australia in a few years time or eventually when you are older or just having it as a side investmentback home.

That's something quite a number of people are raising. My boss did 3 years in KL and says I should go there to get the most bang for my buck and save up lots of money.
I'll be on a good wicket, $100k+, free accommodation and a car allowance which I can't imagine I'll even use so will just pocket.

It's a hard choice. How important is it to own/drive a care?
If you consider not having a car KL loses some of it's financial edge, and SG has great public transport and taxis are close to 0% shady. If you want to drive/own a car (in KL you might be able to get a car + driver), SG has some of the highest "taxes" in the world on car ownership.

Women: SG, but not by a big margin, and unless you're already in the top your value will be higher in KL.

Party: SG

People and politics: KL/SG this is a hard one as Malaysia has a bit of an apartheid regime (pro Malay, anti Chinese Malaysians, pro Muslim anti non Muslim). You mentioned you prefer Asians that are fair skinned, so I'll assume you'll be targeting Chinese Malaysians more than Malays, Chinese Malaysian women are some of the nicest Chinese (origin) women in the world. I'm not saying non of them are status/money obsessed, but I think less than Singaporeans. And I met many Singaporean dudes that are complete nerds and very beta.
If you get easily annoyed by Muslims, KL is not for you.
Both countries are essentially one party states, with the difference that SG government is quite pragmatic and effective and SG is in some ways the best run city in the world. Though Malaysia is politically messed up, KL is still run 10 times better than Jakarta, or even 5 times better than Bangkok.

Lifestyle with an income of a 10.000 dollars a month: KL you'll be able to live like a king and potentially penetrate the higher echelon of society, in SG you'll be a great catch, and can have a great time, but you're not partying at Pangea (expensive club) every weekend (estimate, since I've never been to Pangea).

Keep us updated when you've made your choice.

I'm Aussie and have lived in Singapore for 4 years, its a great place. Great lifestyle, easy to get around and everyones friendly.
And its not boring, but if u really get stuck, just get a cheap flight out every 6 weeks to BKK or Bali.
Sure accomodation is expensive(more than Sydney), and so is alcohol(at decent bars), but tax is only an average of 15%! You wont need a car, taxis and trains are dirt cheap.
Ive never had issues snagging local chicks.
Not sure about KL tax, been a few times there but not a fan, seems stuck in the past, always focused on race and religion.

In regards to driving it doesn't really bother me. I'll have a car allowance either way so if I need a car I'll get one (I drive to work in Australia) otherwise I'll just pocket the car allowance. I won't bother owning a car if I don't need to.

Muslims don't bother me, there are heaps in Australia. As long as they aren't trying to ram their religion down my throat I don't care. I'll probably avoid the head scarf wearing girls as being too much work but that's it.

I'm going to take a trip to KL to scope it out before making my final decision.

Some additional info for people - Office location.

Singapore: Buona Vista (Near the National University of Singapore, 10km west of SG city centre)
KL: Subang Jaya, Selangor (20km west of KL city centre)

Neither of them great locations but that's standard for my company, our offices are never in central locations or main CBD areas. Is either of these locations going to make living in a desirable area with good pulling logistics give me a horrible daily commute?

Buona Vista is right next to Holland Village which has some decent bars and is a popular place with expats from what I remember.

When I was there had no problem pulling girls with god awful logistics, staying with a family member near Jurong west (20 min drive from city center). I would agree that there are probably more lighter skinned Asian girls in SG than KL. Added bonus that their parents are likely rich as fuck and they're not usually looking for a pussy BB (75%+ of SG locals) so if you're masculine you may not have to waste time wining and dining... KFC and McD's did the trick for me.

Buona Vista is fine, it's where the Green and Yellow (circle) line cross, so easy to get to places, and in my mind it's really not 10 km but maybe 5 km or less from the centre, Gbombay was in Jurong West (which is way out) and Buona Vista is around halfway.

Subang Jaya sounds (never been there) like it's way out, maybe like Newark to NYC?

You mentioned going to KL, check out the residential area(s) around the office and where your colleagues live. If you don't visit SG it's not a big deal, you can rest assure you'll be fine around Buona Vista.

Buona Vista is fine. No where in Singapore isn't fine in terms of logistics. We are a country that is so small, you need less than 1 hour from the 'west coast' to 'east coast.' The subway system works fine too and with your salary, you can easily afford taxis daily even if you don't get a car.

Subang Jaya is really near to KL even though it is technically not in KL. Its 20km to KL city central and the cabs are dirt cheap in Malaysia, you would be in the city in less than half an hour. Not the best place to stay but many wealthy (read: Malaysian Chinese) Malaysians would rather get a bigger, fancier apartment in Subang and then drive into KL for work. KL is itself a really small city so no sweat getting into the city even if you don't live directly in it.

- smart
- hygenic

So if you're white late-20's why not go for it, as it's clearly the superior option. It has its own bullshit, but KL has way more bullshit. Also, Singapore is not as expensive as people make it out to be. Your income/expense ratio could be 5:1, if you are looking to save for investing.

Sorry to burst your Singapore bubble OP, but I lived in the Singabubble for years, and, to qualify this post, hooked up with dozens of girls while there, probably more than fifty and maybe even closer to a hundred, many but certainly not all Singaporean.

Despite that, I recently turned down what many would call a dream job because it would have caused me to remain in prison. I could not wait to get the fuck out of that sterile, fake drone factory.

I have not lived in KL so can't comment. I've been there a couple times, and despite the Muslims I had a good time and remember thinking I would enjoy it more than Singapore.

Speaking as a Malaysian here,

Where your office is located is actually a pretty decent area. { Subang Jaya } Its got a small airport for local flights with a carrier named firefly, and most higher end colleges are centered around that area or a short drive away. In terms of living around this area, it's easy to assimilate with the locals, as the area's township is one of the better planned ones.

If you're getting paid the same, you money goes a long way in Malaysia. That said, I hope you get paid in foreign currency as the past year hasn't been kind on the Ringgit.

*Work wise, you will be managing "lower" people in Malaysia, mostly without egos, but low quality work output; whereas in Singapore, you probably have to deal with more egos.

Where the girls speak better English in Asia? Nowhere, I never claimed otherwise. However for a country whose native language is supposedly English, they sure do a good job of butchering it.

In Taiwan, for example, many girls have a decent or even good command of English, but their native language is Mandarin, and many of them speak Hokkien as well. While Singapore has four official languages, English is the de facto official language, and you will find yourself in positions where the English is so butchered that you can't even understand it, peppered in with little bits of other languages so they can have some semblance of culture. I know you haven't been to Taipei, similar could be said of Hong Kong. One would not say "Hong Kong people speak poor Cantonese."

Where are the local girls not as retarded as Singaporeans? Everywhere I've been to, in the region and otherwise. My opinion.

I hated my time in Singapore, and the perception that Singapore is this great paradise is part of the reason I had to be there in the first place. I want to give to the OP the perspective of someone who felt this way, and why, because I definitely was not the only one.

I think you're probably right Kamaki, plus it tends to be in everyone's best interest to keep the "Singapore is magical doublethink" going.

Singapore is small and many social groups are comprised of colleagues or people met through work, why complain and risk it getting around to the wrong person, or someone who could very well be in a position to hire you for your next baller job? And if you can't be truthful and open about it, isn't it better to try to convince yourself that you really do love Singapore as everyone told you you would?

In many industries the sky's the limit there for career advancement and salary, and the tax is much lower than in other advanced economies. You can get over there and balls-to-the-wall yourself into a great career situation if you play your cards right. Recognize this trade-off for what it is, make every second count should you decide to go, then get the F out as and when the right opportunity comes up.

On another note, I was talking about it to someone I'm very close with through work, who agrees with everything I'm saying despite having lived there for many years. He's got a family and kids, and loves Singapore because as he says "it keeps me married...there is zero temptation."
