Such a thread (of things that do exist but should not) would likely be inclined towards the political aspirations, which tends to lead to considerable argumentation in these here forums.

I would like to see some experimentation in post-work societies. For people who don't have to work much and travel a lot you find that many cities are woefully lacking in this area. So much of the public space is taken up with the same boring commercial spaces: shops, restaurants etc. None of it encourages any kind of interaction, learning or fun.

The political voting system in the United States is horrible- voters should be able to vote over the internet and the electoral college should be eliminated.

It has also taken way too long to find a replacement for all the website passwords you have to remember- where are the fingerprint/retina scanners?

We already have a thread devoted to Lena Dunham.

Sleep testing should be more readily available & reasonably priced. More people have sleeping disorders than currently realized, but they'll wanna put you on some anti-depressant before anything else. Modern medicine should be there, but it's not yet.

"Free (fill in the blank)" attitudes betray a mindset of entitlement while ignoring those better longstanding traits of our human nature, i.e., providing things/services of value in the context of commerce and the market.

I'm an old fogey and never had this attitude, so is this a millennial thing?
Somebody please clarify.

^^^^THIS

There needs to be some degree of standardization. Two students, each taking the same course from a different instructor and receiving an A, should meet a number of the same criteria.

For example, we're just now starting to see small underwater hotels, and there isn't a submarine tourism industry to much extent compared to cruises and yachts.

This reminds me of a commercial that aired at the turn of the century. I think the actor was Avery Brooks. The commercial started out "It's the year 2000, and where are the flying cars? I was promised flying cars. I don't SEE any flying cars? Why?"

I believe it was a commercial for Enron :/

I think that when millennials develop new processes, systems, products, and just straight up ingenious shit that causes those things to be free, everyone who said this should not be allowed to use it.

The "this should be free" comments are not as good a response to this question as maybe saying "there should a device that attaches to my light bulbs to output heat in the winter" or "There should be an army of robots that takes care of all our BS stuff so we can focus on colonizing other planets by now."

But your comment is even worse.

Hey are you familiar with f.lux? Basically it redscales your computer screen when it gets dark. Warming up the screen colors supposedly helps with your ability to sleep if you have to use a screen close to bed time.

A VTOL flying car would have been nice. I think about how much more I'd travel if it didn't take all day (or longer) to get there, I could avoid traffic and I could just land where I wanted.

Moller's design was pretty but A. ducted fans can't provide the performance he claimed and B. his design can't handle wind on take off or landing.

Flying cars will only exist when they are driverless and powered by a cheap fuel source.

The one thing we should definitely have by now, hands down, is supersonic commercial air travel.

The ability to decide how your tax dollars are spent.

Maybe I am overthinking, or underthinking this, but how hard would it be to simply have a page that lists all sorts of things like schools, military, roads, bridges, parks, hospitals, or even just a last category of other or general funds or what ever.

To function in this society you have to be able to break change for bills. So, even the stupidest person should be able to calculate what they owe with some software or through an accountant or simply by themselves and then go to the last page and right in a percentage to be used for each area.

I think this should also be done locally and federally. If everyone in your area wants to put their taxes into schools, parks, roads, and bridges and not into WIC or SNAP cards. Well, tough shit for the poor I guess. At least the kids will get good food at school and the parents good roads to drive on.

On the other hand, if everyone in your area wants to finance the military/policed and welfare programs then I guess it sucks your shitty roads are collapsing.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

I personally don't see "flying cars" happening beyond being a recreational niche/novelty item for owners of pilots licenses.

They'll be more refined versions of "roadable aircraft" like the Terrafugia Transition here, where pilots drive them from their garage to the nearest airfield and take them into the air.

Flying cars, are you guys serious? We have enough people dying on the road already.... I do not want to have flying car crashing to buildings added to that!
Flying is so much harder than driving the car on a 2D plane, it does not even compares

There is work being done in the field and the increasing number of electric vehicles makes room for leaps in how the electricity grid functions.

For example, when everyone comes home from work in the evening and the demand for electricity spikes with appliances being turned on, some of this energy can be taken out of the electric car they just plugged in the wall which will take load off the grid. Then when they all go to bed the cars will charge resulting in less peak demand for power. Tesla are doing this stuff with their wall batteries.

As far as breakthrough technology goes we have definitely hit a plateau. We should have lightsabers and personal jet packs that use superconductors and the earths magnetic field by now but all we have is faster and higher quality distractions.

A robot/machine that custom makes all of your clothes. It can measure your whole body and give you tips on your color complexion, current styles, and what would look best on you to go along with the weather and your plans/goals for the day.

You select the item of clothing you want made, the material, style, color pattern, etc. Take your morning shit and give it 20 minutes to work its magic, and BOOM; you have your perfectly fitted clothes ready to wear.

It could even be reusable, where you toss your clothes back in at the end of the nights and it washes and recycles the material.

Feel free to take the idea and develop it Thumb up

No more excuses for the guys who aren't custom suited.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.
