I really wonder if his wealth could go anywhere near as far as he claims.

In political science class years ago I had a really good professor. He had been the mayor of a small town for over a decade and really knew his shit. He also had a clear passion for politics and American history which is why he became a professor while still engaging in local campaigns.

I remember his claiming that it was a universal truth in politics that the side that spends the most money wins. He pointed out that that is why it is so hard to route out politicians because they had access to the state coffers.

If you look at the last couple elections it is simply amazing how much money is raised and spent. Obama spent more than a billion dollars to get elected.

This election by see the winner spending two or even three times that much. It seems insane, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I would be surprised if Trump spent a billion or more of his own money. For one, billionaires don't have that type of fluid capital. Two, guys that are that wealthy tend to want to protect their wealth and/or grow it. So, I find it unlikely that he wouldn't be raising money or allying with certain interests.

Presidents are never really on vacation. They work where ever they go. So that is a non-starter.

Obama catches shit because we have a press conference about some horrible event, ISIS beheading a US citizen, and then within 10 minutes he is on the golf course. Personally I don't care, but that will rub a lot of people the wrong way.

I don't care if the President plays golf 12 hours a day, as long as he stops the process of the wealthy elites in their march to destroy the middle class. And that seems unlikely, as the wealthy elites own the govt.

As far as what is in it for the President himself. After he is out of office he and his family will be set for life. Giving speeches for $1,000,000+. Book deals. TV appearances. All the right connections. Their lineage for generations will attend the best schools and will be in high society. And they go down in history, where as 99.99% of men don't.

Ross Perot was able to string himself along to the final lap and ballot aall on his own dtime. The rules have been rigged to prevent that from happening which is why you don't see any viable wealthy candidates running as independents any longer. Nadar was the one last crack. Trump isn't going to spend a billion to try and get on the final ballot, the establishment doles out the billions to whom they know will keep the status quo humming along.

Somebody like Trump would be happy winning some key primary states and getting to corral the campaign narrative into his corner. He has no shot at cabinet or any execuexecutive post so its all agenda pushing and having puppet control of the the canidates issues to focus on. But IMO, the country died when JFK was assassinated. From what I understand he had plans to start to get rid of the Federal Reserve. LBJ took over and pushed the giant failed war on poverty and great society programs that have now failed. Then Nixon took us off the Gold Standard. Ford was just a place holder, and probably could have been okay. Carter was a disaster. Reagan was decent. After that it has been worse after worse.

So really the BS started in November 1963 and things just slowly and gradually get worse. I don't know if Trump would be any better, but outside of him or Paul, I see no one in either party that will be anything other than the status quo.

Any candidate who does NOT get railed by the media is by definition mouthing the precisely appropriate, pre-approved, school/government/media sanctioned positions of the time.

If a group of four talking heads on CNN get together and all agree that what Candidate X says is totally reasonable, you should in no way think that this is true. Just know they're all on the same team, and that team is not your team.

Would Trump be a better President than Bush, Clinton, Rubio? I have no idea, but these people all seem equally clownish. The obvious difference is they have been training for this for years, and thus know that they should only have trendy opinions. Trump dares to say some things he "shouldn't" say, and thus is not a "good" politician because he doesn't bullshit people and lie to them so that they like him.

I doubt anyone like him would win but I certainly would be more upset if we ended up with Bush or Clinton than if we ended up with Trump.
